Alright Vtec-addicts, I am pretty certain that like me, you dont like the shape of the new Honda City either. Whats more, enthusiasts were driven away by the lack of sheer horses in the new Honda City. Indian journalists have moaned about the loss of an exhilerating driving experience vis a vis the old Honda City.

Butttttttttttttttttttt my sources at Ichibaan Honda tell me that the new Honda City with a Vtec engine is but a few weeks away. The thailand spec model churns out 103 bhp (107 PS), so expect its Indian sister to be slightly detuned to accomodate Indian fuel conditions. The older Honda City Vtec enjoys a power to weight ratio of 107 bhp/ton, but the new City Vtec will be able to match only a 89 bhp/ton. The older Vtec tips the scales at 985 kg, while the newer City Vtec (thailand) does so at 1065 kg. Also the older Vtec was detuned by apprx 8% (115bhp t0 106), thus I have calculated the new City Vtecs Indian variant at 95 bhp.

Conclusion - We are comparing 107.6bhp/ton versus 89bhp/ton. Do I hear the enthusiasts whine a little bit louder?

Ouch Honda, when are you getting us the Civic Vtec?

GTO

Have a look at the new city Vtec here!!

Wait a minute, if the New Honda City Vtec will manage a power to weight ratio of only 89bhp/ton, what about the current new Honda City?

A depressingly low 74bhp/ton...

I agree Rags. But it will be intersting to see how this car performs though I know the older Vtec is in a different league

Cheers

Dippy,

Though this car may outperform the current 1.5 NEW city, I dont think it will be a patch on cars like the older City (vtec included), Optra, Ikon......or wait, maybe even the Esteem Mpfi (really a drag race king for the price).

Why would anyone pay 75000 over the current NEW city, when they arent getting performance from either of the options? Rather save your 75000 Vtec money and be slow anyways

I'm not really impressed with Honda's descission on this. The Vtec engine won't make any difference in the NHC body shell.

Even if the NHC was to have a 106bhp Vtec engine, i doubt if it would be able to keep up with the older 1.5 non Vtec.

But getting an I-Vtec engine might solve that problem to a certain extent. You'll have quicker response at even low rpms which will help the NHC in roll-ons and acceleration.

the city just keeps getting worse...the only part i do like about the new city is that it has a ver slick..and i do mean really slick gear shift..one of the best ever.
as for the vtec..just buy the old one..going cheap nowadays

PH,

I love the gearshift of the new city too!! Its among the best I have ever seen in India.

Whatever Honda has done with the new City, it sure has played the right cards (from the sales point of view). Its got superb interiors, awesome fuel economy and rides pretty well even on bad roads. The car is mighty spacious on the inside too.

The older City used to sell 800 odd units a month. The new city has been selling 2500 odd units per month.

That says it all

ya i guess the old VTEC will be a better buy. If they are gettin the NHC VTEC , they should get a 2.0 L one. The new City is sellin cos of 2 reasons :
Mileage.
