Tata Altroz CNG to be launched on April 19, 2023

Mod Note: Our Tata Altroz CNG Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

The Tata Altroz i-CNG was showcased at Auto Expo 2023. The car is now set to enter the Indian market, with its launch slated for April 19, 2023.

The Altroz CNG will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which puts out 84 BHP and 113 Nm. In CNG mode, the engine develops 76 BHP and 97 Nm. The car is likely to be offered with a manual transmission.

In terms of its design, the Altroz i-CNG looks identical to its petrol-powered counterpart. Besides a tiny 'i-CNG' badge on the tailgate, it's difficult to differentiate it from the petrol version.

Inside, the CNG version comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an electric sunroof, automatic climate control and a height-adjustable driver seat. The car also gets projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights and 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

Re: Tata Altroz CNG to be launched on April 19, 2023

What timing! Just when CNG prices dropped by 8 bucks a kilo. Am sure the integration is as good as (or better than) what we saw in the Tiago CNG (Tata Tiago CNG Review). That car had the best integration, tuning & user-friendliness of any CNG car I've ever seen.

Waiting for the Altroz EV though. Now, that will be more relevant and more exciting.

Re: Tata Altroz CNG to be launched on April 19, 2023

TMLs drip feed launch of Altroz variants have been disappointing. First launch the car in manual only with no turbo petrols, contrary to market demand. Years later launch the turbo petrol. Then even longer still, automatic. Now 4 years after launch we get a proper CNG option. Perhaps wait another year for the EV.

The problem is customers have moved on and the Altroz has terribly underachieved. It really has the potential to add another 10k+ monthly sales easily for TML.

Tata needs to rejuvenate the Altroz portfolio, a refresh and relaunch with all variants available from DAY ONE. Right now this half baked approach is giving the baleno a free run.

Re: Tata Altroz CNG to be launched on April 19, 2023

Smartly creating usable boot space, by putting the split tanks in the spare wheel area - definitely is a big USP for these latest Tata CNGs. But then - I hope there is enough market survey done by them, to check that the Altroz will be in demand with a CNG.

Its a car that has a better ACE up its sleeve. A diesel engine! Price the diesel better and you'll actually see a huge bump in the sales Tata. Far better than the CNG that comes with a huge list of shortcomings.

Also - to bring this brilliant car on center stage - TML needs to create a lot of excitement around it. A DCT equipped diesel and turbo-petrol, with well-made marketing campaign is what is needed IMO to get this car its dues. Not a CNG.

OT - had an iTurbo-DCA or diesel DCA been available some months ago - an Altroz would be sitting in my parking already. I love this car, but hate the 3 pot 1.2NA petrol that powers it. Would have easily accepted to spending 2x the money I spent to acquire the Polo GT 1.2 (pre owned). I wanted to own a daily usable DCT (i.e. hatchback) before we shifted finally to EVs, and it was now or never. TML is taking way too long for the DCA Turbo Altroz to be available. Come on!

I second that. Moreover, none of the Turbo's have been paired with the unique "made for India" planetary gear based DSG. Also, the NA Altroz could have done better with AMT.

However, I really like the twin cylinder CNG implementation concept for better utilization of boot space. I hope this trend catches on with aftermarket CNG fitments.

Re: Tata Altroz CNG to be launched on April 19, 2023

It's a waste of a great design that they are still not launching the EV. I mean this car has everything else going for it. Five star safety, fantastic looks, great dynamics and more than enough features.

The automatic has no power, the (slightly) powerful has has no automatic. The diesel has power but no automatic and is expensive. Add to that TML's after sales. An EV could solve every single one of these problems and do justice to the otherwise fantastic package. So much for a platform supposedly developed with future electrification in mind.

Having said that if they do launch the Punch EV then only a few would buy the Altroz EV since not many would prefer to have the handling dynamics of a hatchback over the convenience and road presence of a micro SUV.

When Tata motors showcased Altroz CNG at the auto expo ,it was equipped with Sun roof but the official media release is silent on it nor does the Tvc shows anything.

Re: Tata Altroz CNG to be launched on April 19, 2023

How is this not better than a DZire CNG for commercial use?

Altroz iCNG has:

Substantially More Boot Space
Longer wheelbase
Wider overall

If I were booking a Ola/Uber Sedan, I would much rather have one of these show up rather than a DZire or XCent CNG. At least this would have space to stow away some luggage. In the aforementioned sedans, the luggage competes with passengers for space on the seats.

In the auto expo videos, punch CNG had its spare wheel underneath, like any OG SUV. There wasn't any explicit mention about altroz CNG's spare wheel placement. I believe, they would have space below CNG tanks.

Re: Tata Altroz CNG to be launched on April 19, 2023

Too little, too late.

Aftermarket is already showing success with CNG in1.2 L turbocharged Nexon and they still launch it with the lethargic engine 1.2 Non turbo 3 pot motor.

Also, if there's no spare wheel what am i supposed to do in case of a tyre burst on an expressway or in the middle of no where. Spare wheel is something which is not used on a daily basis but should be always there in case of emergency.

I haven't used the spare wheel in my Tiago in the last 5 years. Tata also provides a puncture repair kit with every car they sell. So no spare wheel will not be much of a problem i.m.o.
