Re: Tata Punch iCNG launched at Rs 7.10 lakh

This might the ideal city car for our metros.

However, Tata has again not offered the complete package. Since, the CNG option is not available in the top spec Creative trim, it will miss out on practical features like a rear-wiper and electrically folding ORVMs.

Re: Tata Punch iCNG launched at Rs 7.10 lakh

Good to see Tata is not cutting corners in delivering a half baked products.

The CNG offerings bg Maruti or Hyundai arent much different than aftermarket fitments. Infact, initially, Hyundai was found to be using an aftermarket dealer to install cng kits.

Full marks to Tata for making genuine full fledged effort to offer most advanced cng kit in the Indian market.:

I think this is a positioning move, to keep Altroz as the ‘premium’ product. Altroz gets gas option on the top variant. In either case, the package will become complete only when it is mated with the DCA automatic. Then, it will become the ideal city car.

I'm not holding my breath for an automatic CNG car, but providing the CNG in the top variant wouldn't have required any investment on the part of Tata. Instead, they have relied on some imaginary market positioning data which says that the Punch should neither get the Turbo petrol engine, nor the DCA, and now that the CNG variant should not be offered in top spec.

Tata Punch iCNG fuel efficiency revealed

Tata Motors has revealed the fuel efficiency figures for the recently launched Tata Punch iCNG.

Tata Punch iCNG launched at Rs 7.10 lakh-punch-icng-front-angle.jpg

The Punch iCNG is powered by a 1.2-litre engine that produces 72 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 103 Nm @ 3,230 rpm in CNG mode. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It has an ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of 26.99 km/kg.

The Punch iCNG goes up against the Hyundai Exter CNG, which has a slightly higher claimed fuel economy of 27.10 km/kg. The Punch may not be as fuel efficient as its rival, but its main USP is the dual-cylinder CNG technology, which uses two separate CNG tanks instead of a single big one that would otherwise gobble up the entire luggage space in the boot.

The Altroz hatchback is also equipped with Tata's dual-cylinder CNG tank tech. The claimed fuel efficiency of this car is 26.2 km/kg. The Altroz iCNG rivals the Baleno and Glanza, both of which, have a higher claimed fuel efficiency of 30.61 km/kg.
