re: Rumour: MG Gloster base variant price hiked by Rs. 72,000

After reading about Jeep and now MG, I want to use my car carefully. It has to serve me for at least another decade (it's 3 years now). Can't withstand these price hikes and the additional taxes that we pay on top of this. This is not a market for people who want to upgrade beyond their sub 4m compact SUVs.

This makes the fortuner look VFM now ! The blackstorm variant is 2 lakhs more expensive than the top trim fortuner and 30k more than the 4×2 legender !

Thats a STEEP hike indeed. I wonder what prompted it all at once! Its getting such that it is near impossible to consider buying a new vehicle these days.

I think MG has finally figured it out. There is no point in competing with Fortuner by being the value-for-money offering. They will have better luck playing the "costlier-than-Fortuner-hence-command-more-respect" card. At least the owners will be able to brag that my car is more expensive than Fortuner and has more features.

Wow. That is quite some hike. Is it because GOI has clamped down on import of CKD kits and thus MG only has limited number of units to sell? Else, such a hike hardly makes commercial logic.

I hope MG has actually checked the sales charts and has seen that their Gloster sells 2xx units whereas the Fortuner regularly touches 3xxx units per month!

I'm not sure competition is the word which needs to be used to describe these 2 in the same sentence!

re: Rumour: MG Gloster base variant price hiked by Rs. 72,000

The base variant was previously the "Super" variant, which was last priced at 31,99,800/-, and has been discontinued. The current base variant is "Sharp" which is priced at 38,79,800/-, and was previously priced at 36,87,800/-.

So while the actual base price has gone up by 6,80,000/-, the actual increase in the price of the "Sharp" variant is only 1,92,000/-.

re: Rumour: MG Gloster base variant price hiked by Rs. 72,000

While the price hike is true, technically, the amount of Rs. 6.2 lakh is misleading given the timeline of events.

Here's the starting price of the Gloster -

August 2022 - 31.99 lakh (Base Super variant)

May 2023 - 38.08 lakh - They discontinued the base variant which shot up the starting price. Related News

August 2023 - 38.80 lakh - Mentioned on the latest official brochure.

Essentially, the hike is Rs. 72,000 and not Rs. 6.20 lakh.

This was done in May earlier this year.
