re: Comparison | Honda City Vs Honda Elevate

Simple to answer. If you want lavish sedan, go for City. If you want compact SUV, want to do some bad roads daily then go for Elevate. Both are very different segments and very easy to choose from.

My choice would be City for now. It gives you really nice feeling and kind of richness. Quality wise it was always a good car.

re: Comparison | Honda City Vs Honda Elevate

I recently took back to back test drives of the Elevate and City CVTs, my impressions as follows:

Most prominent differences:

1. Elevate: Suspension/ride quality is far more comfortable and feels robust compared to the city. Almost like a europian luxury car/suv.

2. City: Interiors feel far more upmarket compared to the Elevate. All the plastics, leather, finishes feel significantly plusher compared to the Elevate.

Given our road conditions and for someone looking for usage on variety of surfaces and for road trips, I recommend and have voted for the Elevate.

re: Comparison | Honda City Vs Honda Elevate

Hello everyone,

It is certainly not Sophie's choice and clearly why, but I take liberty to spill my perception below:

Elevate and City belong to different segments and cater to distinct customer preferences. Comparing them would be akin to comparing apples and oranges. I think apart from the fact that each car has its unique features, each type of car caters to a specific set of requirements and expectations.

A discerning customer, looking at Elevate, typically considers other cars within that SUV segment, such as Creta, Taigun, Seltos. Similarly, a potential City buyer would likely be comparing it with cars like Verna, Slavia, or Virtus, which fall within the sedan category.

I am not sure if a customer with Elevate requirements would take City home and vice versa. Even if requirements are shifted, in my view this will be fractional (reasonable customer assumption, which may deviate fractionally).

So Elevate v City is akin to comparison of Creta-Verna or Taigun-Virtus or Ciaz-Brezza. Question is have we done that before?

Please consider this as one of the diverging opinion as this is clearly tangent to this thread. But then what a discussion is if there are no discussions, right?

Cheers!

re: Comparison | Honda City Vs Honda Elevate

Voted for CITY.

Both these cars are from different segments and hence head on comparison would not be appropriate.

Nothing can beat a sedan on space, ride comfort and high speed stability which is very important for me. So I would only choose city over elevate. IMHO, Elevate only has a better ground clearance, City prevails over everything else. I never have owned city, but few bhpians have pointed out GC is never a problem.

re: Comparison | Honda City Vs Honda Elevate

It boils down to personal preferences for body styles. Glad that Honda is finally offering such choice as you can’t go wrong with either

Thank you for the detailed comparison.
How does the Elevate's NVH compare against that of the City? (I find the NVH in my 2020 5th Gen VMT, abysmal wrt most ambient street and vehicular noise creeping in.)

Both cars have similar noise levels, minimal cladding on the front wheel arches, and no cladding for the rear wheels. However, the Elevate lacks rubber sealing on the doors, a feature present in the Gen 5 City. Noise from wind and the road becomes noticeable in the cabin at 100 km/h, and by 120 km/h, the NVH levels feel unsatisfactory. Additionally, the i-VTEC engine sound in the Elevate seems strained.

re: Comparison | Honda City Vs Honda Elevate

Voted for both having test driven both very recently as my brother is looking for an upgrade from an S Presso.

Found the City really elegant with its luxuriously well placed exteriors and interiors. Very smooth ride, ample space at the back and the drive easily goes to show how the City has truly evolved and been loved throughout the years.

On the Elevate, I would say its a great product to be launched by Honda in India at a time where C-SUVs are so much in demand. Very plush interior and ample leg space at the back with Black and shaded of tanned interior giving it an up-market feel.

My brother was more inclined towards the Elevate as he prefers a much taller design as he comes from the S Presso and I could clearly sense the excitement when he was at the wheel.

All in all both great products and well positioned price-wise too, all boils down to practicality and almost nothing to differentiate between the two.

Good news is Honda is truly back with the Elevate and for those who speculated that Honda may leave the country, this surely comes as a savior as Hondas have always been respected for their Engines and designs over the past 2 1/2 decades here in India.

I wonder if Honda plans to seal the deal here by launching its international EV - the small car Honda E in the near future. Saw a few in Germany when i travelled there for an official visit.

re: Comparison | Honda City Vs Honda Elevate

Voted for the City.

Reasons are primarily my bias/desire towards sedans especially with the iVTEC + MT combo.
But I have to say it was a very difficult choice. Even a slight hint towards practicality had the Elevate winning it.

On a side note the Elevate needs a version with tan interiors and rear wash-wipe without the irritating ADAS and sunroof.

While both models offer wireless charging, the City's wireless charger appears more like an aftermarket addition.

I have the City top end (2021) and it neither has wireless androiod auto nor wireless charging. Were these features added in newer editions?

Can NVH in Elevate be improved through after market treatment? Strained engine coupled with road and wind noise can be a very annoying, especially with all the new expressways permitting 120kmph.

Re: Comparison | Honda City Vs Honda Elevate

Voted for the Elevate for:

- My 2013 Honda City is a pain navigating bad roads (which are plenty in India)
- Commanding driving position

That's it. All other things City does it better - Be it comfort, driving dynamics, fun to drive element, space management and mileage.

Yes, these were added in the face-lifted version of the 5th Gen City. The wireless charging setup looks like an afterthought though, considering it is removable.

OT: I have the City top end (2021, CVT) as well.

Re: Comparison | Honda City Vs Honda Elevate

Voted for the City as I am biased as I own one

But on a serious note, City has acres of space, can sit 5 comfortably with loads of boot and despite being a sedan I have taken her places where the word 'roads' have a very different meaning altogether. Especially in rural Maharashtra and Gujarat around a lot of farm lands.

Oh, did I mention the iVTEC+MT combo and the awesome 18 kmpl mileage on the petrol

Hello! These features have been added in the refreshed 2023 City.

Hi there! It's possible to improve NVH levels by adding aftermarket insulating materials, but the effectiveness can vary.
