The Maruti Fronx was showcased at Auto Expo 2023 and was launched in the Indian market on April 24, 2023. The carmaker states that the model has been instrumental in more than doubling its share in the SUV segment to 19.7% in CY2023 from 10.4% in 2022.

The Maruti Fronx is available with two engine options. These include a 1.2-litre K-Series Dual Jet motor that makes 89 BHP and 113 Nm. It is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The second engine option is an all-new 1.0-litre K-Series Boosterjet turbo-petrol that puts out 99 BHP and 148 Nm. This engine is offered with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

According to Maruti Suzuki, the automatic variants of the Fronx contributed to 24% of sales. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol version also witnessed considerable demand.

The Fronx is also exported to markets in Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The carmaker has exported over 9,000 units till now.

From this article in Times of India, the Booster Jet engine contributed to 5-7% of the total sales figure. This has evidently gone down from the previously reported share of 13% around June 2023.

I have a query to esteemed members of the forum who have an insight of MS' corporate strategy. Is it possible that they could extend the 1.2L AMT drivetrain to Zeta and Alpha trims? Has there been any chatter in this regard?

Re: Maruti Suzuki Fronx clocks 1 lakh sales in 10 months

Making the front look like the Grand Vitara's was a genius design choice! I've mistaken it for the bigger car more than once in the rear view mirror.

Under the pseudo-SUV skin, it's the very competent Baleno with the proven K12 motor, so not surprised it's a hit.

Between its three current iterations (Baleno, Glanza, Fronx) and whatever the Fronx's Toyota twin will be called, it'll arguably be Maruti's most popular car for a while.

While Fronx sales numbers seems great, it's astonishing once we add Baleno and Glanza to the tally. These three models alone have sold 24,479 units in December 2023 alone.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Fronx clocks 1 lakh sales in 10 months

Thumbs up Maruti, success of FRONX is a real surprise for me as I was thinking it's difficult to sell Baleno and FRONX (90% Baleno) on the same floors of the NEXA. But looks like the ground clearance and the frontal styling and waiting periods of Baleno worked for Maruti.

The hatchback family together did a whopping 338K units in 2023 ( Baleno+Glanza+FRONX SUV), yeah India can't get enough of BALENOs, even after 1M sales, clap !

Maruti claims it's the fastest to 1 Lakh in PV business, is this for FY2024 or what? Even punch crossed 1 Lakh in first 10 months right?

Re: Maruti Suzuki Fronx clocks 1 lakh sales in 10 months

It is sure a case study how MSIL evaluates and understands the pulse of Indian customers and launch these kind of products. I was thinking it will be another disaster from them like the Ritz model long back. But with just the petrol engine they are easily competing with the Hyundais and Tata hatchback models and winning like this.

I am pretty sure Toyota guys will be happy seeing this and wanting to eat that share very soon.

Maruti Suzuki looking to rejig Fronx line up.

Fronx Turbo likely to get lower-spec variants in a bid to move its sales closer to projections.

Arrrggg.

So they are bringing Booster Jet to lower variants but not 1.2 NA to higher variants. MSIL seem hell bent on pushing the turbo engine, must be to justify localizing the production.

My wait for a cheaper top-end Fronx AT continues.

EDIT: But hang on, Delta Plus does have a turbo option. Those buying lower variants (Delta and Sigma) usually choose them due to budget constraints. There is no way such customers would pay more just for Turbo. MSIL knows our demographic very well and I am pretty sure they would have this figured out already.
Could these statements just be a hogwash to avoid dip in prospective turbo bookings? And could the variant rejig indeed bring in 1.2 NA to Zeta and Alpha? A man can hope.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Fronx clocks 1 lakh sales in 10 months

FRONX sales break up as per autocar

1.2 NA 93%
1.0 turbo 7% (7000 units)
AMT+AT 24%
CNG 20%

It was clear from launch the 1.0 variants were overpriced, the VFM 1.2 NA variants were doing the majority contribution, extending the Baleno sales.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Fronx clocks 1 lakh sales in 10 months

At times, I sense that companies are beginning to take Indian car consumers for granted. The prevailing trend in the Indian auto sector seems to revolve around refurbishing, reshaping, and tweaking existing models. Major players such as Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) and Hyundai are adept at crafting and carving new offerings from their existing product lines.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Fronx clocks 1 lakh sales in 10 months

I think the 1.2 NA is possibly the best selling engine of all time? In India at least. What an absolute workhorse of an engine. I'm sure the success of Fronx has taken a lot of people by surprise, at least on these message and call board. Full respect to Maruti for churning out hit after hit after hit. They really have all fingers on the pulse of the Indian buyer.

1L Turbo is excellent engine with no turbo lag. They should have given this in Sigma variant at the launch itself with premium around 40-50K maximum since the engine is localised.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Fronx clocks 1 lakh sales in 10 months

The Fronx is perhaps the best looking Maruti vehicle in India currently. Its design has youthful appeal which is athletic and aesthetically pleasing. No doubt it is hot favourite among the young customers. Also it is perfect alternative to those looking to buy a hatchback. It brings the benefits of raised vehicle that a regular customer is looking for.

With fantastic exterior and interior design, along with typical Maruti benefits like reliability, frugality and fuss free ownership. It has indeed set the sales charts on fire by selling more than 94k units under 1 year. It shows how much hold Maruti has of the Indian car buyers psyche.

The Fronx also shows how Maruti Suzuki is transitioning its hatchback lineup into crossover segment. Just like Exter is taking the baton from i10, we may see Fronx taking over from Baleno.

One point to note however would be that the Fronx is not the first sub 4m hatch to be given a crossover profile. Models like Fiat avventura, Honda WRV, Ford Freestyle, Hyundai i20 active, Etios Cross existed but they were not as successful as fronx. Where the fronx differs is in the styling. It does not look like a raised baleno, but a different vehicle, which boosts its appeal.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Fronx clocks 1 lakh sales in 10 months

The Fronx has qualified into the Selected 5 of the World Urban Car of the year 2024 and is competing against the likes of Abarth 500E, BYD Dolphin, Lexus LBX & Volvo EX30.

As per the website, "Vehicles eligible for World Urban Car must be produced in volumes of at least 5,000 units/year and must be “on-sale” in at least two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, USA) on at least two separate continents within the period January 1, 2023 and March 30, 2024.

Vehicles must be a maximum of 4.25 meters in overall length and be approved for operation on public roads."
