Voted for sedans, coupes and convertibles. I'm actually surprised to see that most of the BHPians have voted for sedans as their favourite bodystyle, while India has now become an SUV-centric market.
I grew up seeing sedans throughout my life, my father always had one as his personal car. We've had an Ikon, a Lancer and a Global Fiesta. It's a fact that sedans are dying globally, being replaced by crossovers and micro-SUVs, even the model choices got slimmer in our market. Globally famous brands like Fiesta, Corolla, Civic, Octavia, Elantra, Accord, Superb etc. are all dead here. Sedans may not be practical as SUVs, but I still love their low-slung, three-box form factor over anything. With the withdrawal of standard G20 3 Series from the Indian car market (only LWB ones are available now), an M340i in Sunset Orange happens to be my dream sedan.
Voted for: Sedan, Sportback
I love the liftgate concept of Sportbacks. The Slavia/Virtus would've benefited from the liftgate, given that they have folding rear seats. You get all the usual benefits of a sedan coupled with the practicality of a hatchback.
However, since Sportbacks are a rarity in India, the only other body style that tugs at my heartstrings is the sedan.
If I buy a car with my heart, it would definitely be a sedan or a Sportback.
I prefer the sedan for the space, planted ride, superb handling on the highways.
At the age of 29 when I bought my first car, I was a sedan lover who loved a laid back driving position. Now at the age of 38, as a middle aged man with a chronic backache I am an SUV person for the foreseeable future. I guess a lot changes with age. The sporty handling of a low slung sedan doesn’t tempt me as much as the upright seating position in an SUV. The handling anyways doesn’t matter now because the last time I got to drive above 80kmph for more than few seconds was at least 6 months ago.
Voted Sedan. But with a heavy heart I must say my next car would be a suv. Low ground clearance in our country poses a real issue.
Voted: Pick Up and Hatchback.
Pickup Truck: She's an all rounder for me, a comfortable long distance tourer with unmatched luggage hauling ability. A reliable workhorse.
Hatchback: Fast and furious good for not so far highway jaunts while also being a go kart in the city.
It'll be hard to find good replacements for the both of them.
In the sea of SUV, its a SEDAN all the way for me.
- Low slung= better planted ride
- Space and practicality
- Boot space is huge advantage
- Styling of Sedan
If you ask a kid to draw a car mostly it will be a sedan. Car=Sedan for me.
I was always a sedan guy. The driving experience one gets from a sedan is ultimate. I would have never contemplated buying a Suv till last year. The That RWD was launched and i took the bait. On our roads, the SUV makes a lot of sense.
I am so happy with my purchase but I have retained my sedan for the unbridled joy it gives me.
I have voted for Suv though
Cheers
I appreciate the convenience of a multiple-choice answer; otherwise, selecting one would have posed a considerable challenge for me.
Although I hold a deep admiration for the functionality, spaciousness, and driving position offered by SUVs, I cannot overlook the sophisticated aesthetics of sedans and the sporty allure of coupes.
Throughout my life, I've been fortunate enough to own and/or drive vehicles representing various body types. However, there's one I dream of owning before time catches up with me—a convertible
In my perspective, the Corvette Stingray Convertible stands out as one of the most exquisitely designed convertibles, boasting sharp looks and undeniable appeal.

I voted Sportback, because it is my second most favourite body style. My favourite wasn't listed - the station wagon aka estate.
In my ideal garage, I would have each one of them (except the Pickup and the convertible).
Sedans and Notchbacks/Sportbacks are my favourite design, cause they are meant to be enjoyed and pushed around to its limits, without breaking sweat.
SUVs/ MPVs are only glorified Pickup trucks, as in it doesn't share the utilitarian image of the latter, yet is equally capable vehicle when the situation demands rough and tough performance. Even I would classify our market favorite CSUV here, as they do the exact job. It may work to demand respect from those pesky bikers and auto wallahs, but I personally dread taking them around as they are massive.
Hatchbacks are easy to loiter around and one can be generally carefree. However hot hatches do surprise you with their snake like flexibilities.
My favorite is wagon. I'm surprised such old school form is missing but CUV is listed as a body style which is just SUV without the capability of a real SUV :S
I voted only for the “Crossover”. Refrained from adding SUV to the vote basket.
Crossover offers the best of all worlds. They drive closer to how a sedan does, almost have the ground clearance of a SUV and handle almost like a hatchback.
By the way, I am not talking about Crossovers such as XUV7OO that is almost like a true SUV. I am talking about true crossovers such as S-Cross, GLA, FIAT Avventura, Polo Cross etc.
Its surprising that "Estate" Model Category is not an Option in the list And also Grand Touring Models. In my opinion, Estates are best of both Worlds. SUV's practicality, space and Ground clearance, and almost Sedan like handling. I voted for SUV, didn't know we could select multiple options.
In an ideal Garage, I would love to have at least one each from each Category! lol, Because, why not! lol:
Body on Frame SUV- Indestructible Land Cruiser, Upcoming 5 Door Thar!
Sedan- BMW 5 Series with awesome Inline 6, BMW 6 GT, Honda Accord 2.0 L Turbo
CrossOver/Monocoque SUVs- Honda Elevate, Upcoming Duster, Mazda CX9, Acura MDX, Porsche Macan!
Estates- Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, BMW 5 Series Touring, Audi A6 Avant
Convertibles/Sports cars- Porsche 911, Mazda Miata MX-5
MPVs- Innova Crysta, Hycross, and Honda Odyssey
Pick Ups- Toyota Tacoma, Hilux
Anything that wins voting on Teambhp doesn't sell. We all have tastes which don't match with mass market. Teambhp votes for Sedans with more than 50%. Sadly they are on verge of extinction in India and probably world over.
Ironically, having said the above, I too voted for Sedans. Extremely practical with space, handling, boot, road manners, and style.
