The Scorpio-N Z8 Select is available with petrol and diesel engine options. These include a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with 198 BHP / 380 Nm and a 2.2-litre diesel producing 173 BHP / 400 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

What does it miss as compared to the Z8?

It misses out on the below features in comparison to Z8
Just to add, the current Z8 AT used to get 18 inch alloys (while MT used to get 17 inch). But now, both AT and MT in Z8 trim gets 17 inch.

Glad that I got mine before these changes :Cheering:

For AT Diesel the price difference is around 1.64 Lakhs between Z8s & Z8 which makes Z8s Value for Money model as it loses only Push Button Start, Passive Keyless Entry, Power Folding ORVMs, Auto Headlamps & Wipers, Dual Zone FATC which aren't must have features and 1.64 Lakhs for these aforementioned features is quite a lot!

The 17 inchers offer a far more cushioned ride compared to 18 ones as well as save quite a lot when it comes to changing tyres.

Same here 18inches , z8AT 4xplore introductory price was a sweet deal by the time it came up.

However it is.much better than the z6 and closes the gap. Z7 would have been ideal

This is supposed to be a Z6+ or Z8- (or Z8FE in Samsung nomenclature) but Mahindra named it Z8 Select making it sound upmarket and special.

I think this is a value for many variant now. The price difference of 1.64L between Z8S DAT and Z8 DAT is working out to be around 2.3L on road in Hyderabad. For people like me who appreciate minimal fancy stuff, this is the best variant. I prefer having all the safety over anything else. This is now the least expensive Scorpio N with all safety aids. Actually I wish they had removed the sunroof too and passed on the price difference.

The price reduction of 1.6L looks like a lot compared to the removed features. I think there may be more features removed which are not part of the brochure. Features like silver finish on inside door handles, chrome waist line, soft door pads and dash board etc are not part of the brochure and I guess these may have been removed. If all these are exactly like Z8, then 1.6L is a big discount.

This is indeed a VFM variant, however, Mahindra has still not followed 6 Airbags standard approach like Hyundai, Kia and Tata has followed for their recent launches.
They are still trying to upsell higher variants for those who are safety conscious. If only 6 Airbags are added as standard even Z4 and Z6 variants will become VFM for many buyers. Still a welcome move and addition in the variant list.

This variant is going to be a hit amongst those who are looking for Z6 Variant. For additional 70K + Additional road tax, they are getting 6 Airbags, Leatherette Seat Covers, Alloys Wheels and Projector headlamps and Fog lamps.

Leatherette Seat Covers, Alloys Wheels and Projector headlamps are the ones people get from Karol Bagh

Great variant and value proposition. Especially the diesel AT as the premium over the equivalent petrol AT is only 50K (It is 1 lakh for the MT). All basics covered, such as six airbags, ESC/HHC/HDC, Cruise Control, Rear Camera, FSD, Lumbar Support, LED Projector Headlamps, Colour TFT Cluster, and a whole host of useful stuff.

You get the sunroof as well, though I wish they had substituted that with more useful everyday functions like Dual Zone AC, Pushbutton start and keyless entry - that would have made this variant even better value.

Get this - LED Sequential Turn Indicator which used to be only available in those 40 lakh + cars is now on an 18 lakh Mahindra!

OT: a 12 lakh rupee Nexon has it too :)

I view this variant rejig as an exercise to counter Compact SUVs (Creta/Seltos/Carnival/Grand Vitara/Hyrder/Ertiga) and put Scorpio-N as an alternative in similar price bracket. In hindsight, M&M is also making room for Thar 5-door to squeeze somewhere in this price bracket as current prices will be jacked up in coming months for sure.

Z8 Select variant will have most impact on after market accessories industry unless someone is really tight on budget and prefers Z2/Z4. IMO, the real miss in Z8 Select over Z8 is electrically foldable ORVMs purely for its convenience in urban areas, rest all bases are covered.

With Z8 Select, Z6 and Z8 becomes irrelevant. Z4 buyer will be tempted for Z8S while Z8 buyer will be tempted for Z8 4wd or downgrade to Z8S. This is smart marketing. :thumbs up

What baffles me is M&M still continues to skip Auto dimming IRVM in BIG DADDY. :Frustrati

Wishlist - In next facelift (I assume to be in 2025) I hope Scorpio-N gets B-pillar grab handle, redesigned 3rd Row and Height Adjustable seat belts.

Good step by Mahindra, specially for Delhi-NCR buyers as till now the Petrol was not available in Z6. And that was a bummer because Z6 was a value for money variant having 6 Airbags and most essential features. Anyone who was looking for a decently equipped and safe choice had to go with Z8/Z8L for the petrol.

Now, the Z8 Select sits just a tad above Z6, essentially as someone said, its a Z6 Plus or Z8 FE, whichever way you look at it.

I would say good value proposition specially for NGT hit NCR folks.

A different perspective here: having driven the Z8 D MT 4xplor for about 700kms in about 2 weeks since delivery, I've found the IRVM to be rather inadequate, even with the 3rd row folded down. During the day, the rear visibility is limited, and at night, with or without set to the dimmed position, it's not of much use. Also felt, the high beams from low slung vehicles don't hit the IRVM significantly to be bothersome. Don't intend to justify anything, but IMO, an auto-dimming function would probably not serve a great deal of purpose, and so was skipped.

The Z6 never had 6 Airbags. It has only 2 Airbags.
