Mahindra has launched a special edition of the Thar called the 'Earth Edition'. It is priced at Rs 15.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
According to Mahindra, the Thar Earth Edition is inspired by the infinite expanse of the Thar Desert, with a palette inspired by the desert geography. It features a satin matte exterior colour called 'Desert Fury', dune-inspired decals, and Earth Edition badges on the B-pillars.
The interior of the Thar is finished in a black theme with light beige accents. It has beige leatherette seats with dune designs on the headrests, Desert Fury inserts on the AC vents, steering wheel, centre console accent and Thar branding on the doors.
Each Thar Earth Edition will come with a unique VIN plate starting with the serial number 1.
The Thar Earth Edition is available in both petrol and diesel versions. These include a 2.2-lire diesel producing 130 BHP and 300 Nm and a 2.0-litre petrol that puts out 150 BHP and 300-320 Nm. Both engines come with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

- Petrol MT – Rs 15.40 lakh
- Petrol AT – Rs 16.99 lakh
- Diesel MT – Rs 16.15 lakh
- Diesel AT – Rs 17.60 lakh

Interesting. If Thar is going to have editions in future, they should seriously consider naming them after places where Mahindra vehicles are seen dominantly - for example Thar Coorg edition will be a good one! There may be more such/similar ones.

Looks fantabulous! (from the clicks and video, atleast). I know looks are very subjective but in reality, if it looks any close to what we see here, Mahindra would add one more customer!

It's called the Thar Earth edition because they can't call it the Thar Thar edition :D
It's not called the Thar Desert edition because.. it isn't! And Mahindra don't want people to desert the Thar, do they?!

Love the color. It looks stunning. Maybe there will be a Ladakh edition next with mountain blue color and decals.
Is this some sort of stock clearing strategy before the thar 5 door launch?

How can they reach to a stockpile that needs clearing when all Thar models have months of waiting :D

Considering that is named after a desert, I'd have liked them to name the colors after places in Rajasthan
E.g. Rann White, Jaisalmer Gold etc.
Jodhpur Pink in a sandstone color would've been awesome!
It'd have been a nice nod to its roots.

Despite claims of a huge backlog, we see many signals that indicate M&M are apporaching the end of the period where demand far overtook supply. We just saw the ScorpioN Z8S being launched, which is a better value proposition than the Z6 or Z8. The 2024 XUV700 added more features in lower variants without a majormprice increase. In the case of the Thar, the very fact that special editions have started is a signal of this as well.
M&M's share price has more than doubled in last 2 years based partly on the image of an endless backlog that keeps on growing. Once the market sees them as similar to any other manufacturer, who has to sell hard, price products keenly and throw in incentives to move product, that could dent their share price quite a bit.
As a long suffering resident of Koramangala, I had to prompt Microsoft Copilot to
create an image of Mahindra Thar inspired by Ejipura flyover. May be this with new Thar is a good customisation option :)

All models except base RWD are available at NCR dealers. No waiting .
Mahindra is minting 5K + sales / month on the Thar? Why on 'Earth' would they do this?
This 'special' or 'exclusive' editions are for the low-selling products , like the Skoda , VW's , etc. I don't think M&M has to resort to such crap!

It has been more than 3 months for my LX Petrol automatic booked and dealer always says no stock.
