This news came in immediately after the brouhaha that Suzuki made about entering India independently. The first cars that they were rumoured to come in with were the Ignis or the Swift, both being hatches. More people are putting their bets on the fact that it will in fact be the Swift.

I read the article too, and though the title says that Maruti will have a hand in designing it...the article reads that they will start trial production in December.

Maruti does NOT have the capability to design even a simple door, forget an entire automobile

Since years, Maruti has literally been begging Suzuki for technology transfer (read spoon feeding) of gearbox technology. Gearbox technology? Yeah you heard that right. They have a 10 year lead time on Tata in manufacturing cars. Tata designs an entire contemporary automobile - The superb Indica - and the Maruti idiots are still to learn how to design and make one gear box!!!

The only thing that Maruti CAN do is redesign headlights and grilles...making the end product worse than it looked before.

Yes. I stand corrected. But I highly doubt they did it all by themselves. It would have to be a working partnership with Tata.

Tata did design everything else. Suspension, gearbox, engine, electricals...just about everything else there is in the Indica. Talk about building a car, they have put together the Sumo, Safari and what not. Tata is fully capable of building a car from grounds up (design etc.) while Maruti, I doubt, even has an R&D department.

And they themselves put up the production facilities (though some machinery was bought second hand).

Hi All,

A friend of mine works in MUL, & as per Him Swift will be launched some time in April & it will be in the % lac bracket. Also he says in will be very 'Unlike Maruti' in interiors & also will host some features like Auto A/C which r currently in higher segment cars. Also it'll be only in 1.3 ltr engine, & he says it'll smoke the competiotion
