MG working on an all-new platform; Will launch 3 new products globally & in India

According to reports, MG Motor is working on an all-new midsize platform. This new platform will spawn new products for the global markets, including India.

As per reports, the new midsize platform will also be capable of accommodating different body styles and powertrain options. The first three models to be underpinned by the new platform will be a Hector-sized SUV, an Innova-sized MPV and a Civic-sized sedan. The vehicles will get the option of petrol, strong-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure-electric powertrains.

Reports also state that the new SUV could be priced at around Rs 20 lakh; the Innova-rivalling MPV will have a price tag of around Rs 25 lakh and an EV sedan under Rs 20 lakh.

The electric versions of the three global models are said to be manufactured at MG Motor India's upcoming facility near its existing Halol plant. The new production unit is said to help the carmaker double its capacity, with reports stating that the models underpinned by the new platform alone could contribute to 1 lakh volume per year.

Apart from the new platform and its three new global models, MG has also lined up a few more vehicles for the Indian market. The carmaker recently announced an all-new electric MPV based on the Wuling Cloud, as well as a 5-door SUV based on the Yep Plus.
