Popular YouTubers destroying good cars | A concerning trend

Popular YouTubers destroying good cars | A concerning trend

While scrolling through YouTube yesterday, I stumbled upon a video in my feed:

I'm truly saddened by the trend of destroying good cars, especially luxury ones. It would have been understandable if it was a scrap 20-year-old Maruti, but this one is a BMW!

Then, there's another video by a different YouTuber who destroyed a perfectly fine Skoda Superb!

Instead of gaining views this way, why not donate the cars to those in need?

And to top it off, there's a video where a Maruti 800 is being dropped into a well. How terrible is that? Forget about the car; I'm more concerned about the influence of these videos on viewers' minds.

What's even worse is the people in the comment section asking for more content like this:
Name: Screenshot 20240329 005904.png
Views: 303
Size: 22.8 KB
If you didn't understand the comment above, the person wants the YouTuber to try the same experiment with a Porsche!

In a country where cars are regarded as status symbols, individuals like these YouTubers are simply destroying good cars for no reason. It's truly disheartening, and what's even more shocking is their fan following (30 million subscribers) and views. These channels are influencing people in a very negative way. I also found out that one of the above YouTubers is an IITian !

In my opinion, as long they're not endangering other people's lives, they can do whatever they please with their cars. Destroy them, donate them, that's their prerogative.

From their viewpoint, they want to do a profitable business and not charity.

As long as they are not violating any law of the land, they are free to do what in their view is an act where the financial returns(from the views) surpasses their loss from the destructive act.

PS: don't intend to support or oppose their action, just a neutral thought.

You have it backwards. It isn't the YouTuber influencing people negatively, it's the other way around.

There are 30 million morons out there who think this is good content. Hence, there exist YouTubers who make such content and earn a living out of it.

As more people get access to internet and also easy money, there will be all sorts of idiotic ventures to attract attention. Once the novelty wears off, these Youtubers with worthless content would have to think hard. Put it another way, it is a sign of unbridled consumerism. Let's see where it takes us all.

While I understand your emotions, you have to understand it's all about the views. I dont think they care if they are conveying any message or not. They want views & subscriptions #'s, which then is converted to money. YouTube is populated enough now, and to earn money you have to be a professional and be creative.

It doesnt matter if its a BMW or a Maruti. Destroying a car itself doesnt work with me.

The destruction of the BMW should've provided a sense of catharsis - satisfaction in witnessing the release of tension and pent-up emotions through the destruction event. Hence asking for more..

Going by the content, this particular Youtube channel seems to have been "inspired" by Mr. Beast Youtube channel :

Popular YouTubers destroying good cars | A concerning trend-screenshot_4.png

Anyway, destruction of consumer products or any other everyday use item is a popular sub-genre in Youtube. For eg: this video has 25 million views.

I'm against this burial thing because all those toxic chemicals are going to be in the groundwater in some time. The reason why these cars, the bmw and superb in this case, are available for this clown show, is because owners get a good deal. An enthusiast who is interested in restoring the car can't can't possibly pay as much as these youtubers who'll make multiples of their investment for destroying the car. It's probably a reflection of our cheap taste and priorities, how many restoration videos from India versus this kind of rubbish?

Isnt this a willful damage of property. putting a car in a well or burying it underground is not a right thing to do even if the youtuber is the owner of the land/well and the vehicle. NGT bans PM's diesel cars but NGT cant take actions against such acts? well that's the irony.

Just do your part by not watching such videos. There is nothing else that we can do about it.

They're just copying what's viral on the global youtube scene.
If you felt bad watching someone destroy a 15 year old 5 series then this channel would ache your heart.

Re: Popular YouTubers destroying good cars | A concerning trend

It is just all about views, subscription and money! Why blame a youtuber, pls blame the subscriber crowd who wants to support such kind of heinous act.

At the end of the day, anything and everything is available only when there's a liking/demand from people. If no one was really interested in such act, then the youtuber wouldnt have done this.

Most of us come from a well raised conservative and mindful Indian Families where our elders have taught us how to efficiently use the resource and give away something if is going to be useful to someone else.

There's another section of the society also which does all these kind of insane acts just to please a set of people.

We should straight away skip all these kind of nonsense and start focusing on other things which adds value to us, as simple as that!

It's just money. This is something unique, so people will see it more often, similar to iPhone drop/Scratch/Bend tests. People are drawn to negative news or content like that. If he donates the BMW to someone in need and creates a video, he cannot earn back the money he invested. However, if he destroys it and drops a video, he will surely earn enough money to buy another two BMWs.

Re: Popular YouTubers destroying good cars | A concerning trend

Just saw the Superb video on this thread and I must say these folks were helpless in their ability to destroy the Superb overall except the glasses. Superb was like a Bollywood hero who just does not fall down in-spite of 100s of villains trying to kill him. Eventually a crane had to be called to kill Superb but pillars of the vehicle are still intact after all the climax .

But overall this is destructive mindset no matter it is for views or money it eventually becomes a part of daily psychology and some day this mindset will come back to haunt these individuals in video

Stress testing things is good if it benefits the public at large with decision making. The video views are simply for things that are done off the beaten path. This is the same theatrics copied from many other craptent creators from the west.

There is however no wrong or right in this. It is the sign of the times we live in. We embrace it, police it or reject it. The choice is ours to make.
