In a move to attract more customers, Mahindra has launched a cost-effective variant called MX in 7-seater at a starting price of Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom), making it more affordable than the AX3 7-seater by Rs 3 lakh. The trim is available in five color options – Dazzling red, Everest white, Midnight black, Red Rage, and Napoli Black. To cost Rs.40000, more than the MX 5-Seater trim.

Under the hood, the newly released XUV700 MX 7-seater uses a trusted 2.2-liter diesel engine, which generates a maximum power of 153 bhp. It is the same unit, that has been used in the 5-seater and has been paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The newly launched variant comes with LED DRLs, AX3 headlight setup, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment touchscreen, supports all connected car tech and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It gets four speakers, tilt adjustable multi-functional steering, a center armrest with decent size storage, AC vents, headrests for four passengers, powered ORVMs, follow-me-home headlights, and the list goes on. MX 7Seater also comes with multiple USB ports, however the SUV will not be equipped with alloy wheels, fog lamps, and chrome garnish in windows.

Mahindra launches XUV700 7-seater in MX base variant at Rs. 15 lakh - Post moved to a new thread.

Great to see that they introduced the 7 seater in the MX while also keeping the MX variant alive. clap:

It was pretty lame to offer the MX with only 5 seater option, since MX buyers would be VFM hunters than buyers of the higher variants.

That's called decoy pricing! In this case, you make a variant that makes no sense simply so you can advertise a lower starting price. This lets the company advertise unfeasibly low prices while also ensuring no one actually buys them!

The VFM hunters would be drawn into the showroom based on the pricing on the starting price but would be upsold to higher variants since they don't have the necessary seats. Now after a couple price hikes and cooling demand, they can offer the variant in a config that will actually sell.

It's a welcome add for sure. I'm being a bit too greedy when I say this but M&M should've provided automatic also as an option :D it'd have eaten into AX3 for sure, now that a 7 seater is an option. But, would've gotten in a lot of prospective buyers, including me!

Same story, another day, another year. We have seen it with XUV700 as well as Scorpio N that the company simply does not manufacture these low priced variants and priorities the high margin variants; thus keeping the customer in a limbo for months/year and forcing them to upgrade to higher variant.

As rightly mentioned by Createrk, this is just a marketting exercise to increase showroom footfall!

I feel the MX variant is the most VFM option in the entire XUV7OO line up. Over the years M&M has gradually raised prices across the board. I feel lucky to have got mine MX(D) at just under 15L on road two years ago. But in a country where many buyers are swayed by the feature list a car has, I don't think that this variant will actually find many buyers at 18L on road.

When XUV7OO was launched in 2021, there was some discussion on this forum that perhaps MX variant will be short lived and will be axed very soon. But M&M has continued to offer MX variant and also added options regularly like MX(E) and now the seven seater variant. Great job M&M clap:.

And with waiting time tapering off, I guess the car should now be available to buyers sooner.

My uncle has one of the earliest MX variants of the XUV 700. It is by far the most VFM variant of the 700 ever offered. At first, the lower tune of the engine did rub us in the wrong way but after the first long drive, it was clear that the engine had more than enough oomph. We went on a trip to Pithoragarh with 4 people on board with luggage and the car had absolutely no problem climbing up hill. So if anyone is apprehensive about the power output, you need not worry, it is still quite powerful and more than enough for 99% of people out there. It delivers slightly higher FE than the top variants so that's another positive:D

Mahindra readying entry level XUV700 MX petrol automatic.

The Mahindra XUV700 petrol will get an automatic gearbox-equipped version of its entry-level MX variant, according to a Type Approval Certificate issued by ARAI.

  • XUV700 MX AT expected to cost about Rs 15.80 lakh
  • Gets 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and power windows
  • To rival entry-level petrol-automatic versions of midsize SUVs

This base-spec XUV700 gets features such as an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, four speakers, a 7.0-inch instrument cluster, tilt adjustable steering, a front centre armrest, power windows, follow me home headlights, powered wing mirrors and ISOFIX anchors. The most definitive way to tell the MX variants from the higher spec models are the 235/65 R17 tyres on the 17-inch steel rims.

However, it misses out on kit available with the AX3 trim such as the 8.0-inch digital driver display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, two additional speakers, LED DRLs, a rear seat armrest and 60:40 split-folding rear seats.

Now that the MX 7 Seater Diesel Manual has seen the light of the day, I wonder what happened to the MX Petrol AT reported earlier by Autocar India.
Maybe this means that M&M might finally offer the MX variant in both Petrol/Diesel paired with Manual/Automatic option as other AX variants do?

Totally agree with you.

+ Kudos to Mahindra for coming up with this MX version, as at this price point, it should be a very attractive option for buyers, who are getting a bigger car + with 7 seats, and A lot of people will be okay with not having a whole bunch of features that we seldom use.

Along with the recently launched GXO version of the Toyota Innova, this is another VFM offering in the market, I feel.

Is there really that much demand for the MX variants? I think this is probably a move aimed at fleet operators to consider a Mahindra over Tata or Toyota even. Also, the Marazzo has been discontinued, hasn't it? Of course, buyers who know exactly what they want from their cars will also probably pick this over something with more flash, but pointless features they might not need, to save a few lakhs perhaps.

Yes fleets and ...

I find that Mahindra's are very popular in the rural market.

In fact, I would say M&M is the king in the rural, semi-urban consumer base i.e. At least rural side in North India. Villages are full of Bolero's, Scorpio, Thar, and earlier the XUV500 was a very big hit before it was discontinued. However, XUV700 doesn't appear so common as the XUV500 did. People I have seen who are spending 25L+, will then go for a Innova or Fortunner if budget permits.

So I won't be surprised if this MX variant becomes a hit with rural customers who would like the XUV700 badge, size, 7 seats and most importantly the prestige image at this price point, as the XUV700 is generally seen as a 20-25L car in social setting, apart from its utility ofcourse.

Actaually this MX variant is like getting the XUV700 at the XUV500 price point. so I personally find this as a brilliant move by M&M. Should work, I feel.

We need to see how many they actually manufacture for the variant, M&M seem to mainly focus on the higher variants. But now that it is getting a little long in the tooth, the waiting time for base variants may become more acceptable.

If only they had AT on offer, it would have changed everything. Manual is strictly no-no for a lot of us in city traffic, and people who want to keep this as only car may not be very happy about it.

That was a great move and now Mahindra has a model which should cater to the rural markets and to a certain extent for the fleet operators. Although this model is not loaded on features, but it has enough features which should connect and appeal with the general masses. This move is to make XUV 700 a more popular and a comfortable choice in the rural market which otherwise had Bolero, Scorpio etc. as the popular choices. As per the media source even a petrol engine will be added in the variant again depending on the sales.

It would be interesting to know the sales details in future.
