Toyota Vios : When, How much ?

Hi all,
Guyz does any of you have any any idea aas to when the Toyota Vios would be launched in India. An automag (maybe Overdrive) said it would be here by end 2007, or even early 2008. But there's absolutely no news of it in the market, like we have of the upcoming Fiat Linea(i just love that car) etc. the Vios seemed a car to me.

There was something in the Economic Times recently abt Toyota deciding on its new small car as the next model for India. Nothing in that article sounded like "Vios" unfortunately

the toyota guys have not mentioned anything about the vios being introduced into the market. they had plans for a smaller hatch to compete against the likes of the swift and the santro.

in the car & bike show on ndtv, toyota chairman said they will finalise the car for india by 2009. reporter asked "will the car be launched in 2009"?
chairman: no we will finalise which car to launch by then.

really nimble footed toyota......

As per Toyota's own official communications to investors in their regulatory filings, they have not yet decided on where to manufacture the small car which is expected to be launched in 2009-10. All `mag' reports are speculative, and an Indian-manufactured small car is not a certainty for now. But also according to Toyota, they plan a launch in 2009-10. So definitely a small car around then, but not before that, and not sure where it would be manufactured.

i think the Vios was a huge opportunity Toyoyta missed. IIRC, the Vios was launched in most markets right alongside the NHC. One of my friends in KL, chose to go for the Vios over the NHC. Apparently, the Vios was offering more than the NHC, such as disc brakes on all 4 wheels, for e.g. The Vios has done quite well in Malaysia actually. In India, it would have offered fantastic competition for the NHC.

Sorry for digging an old thread. But really interested to know if Toyota is planning to launch Vios in the near future. Though it aint a looker - A Vios 1.4 diesel and a petrol counterpart would surely be a ANHC beater.Anybody got some info?

Last I read, Toyota was planning to come up with 1.4 100bhp Corolla Altis diesel. Even that has not materialized. Fortuner itself came late.
I am sure that there is no concrete information available claiming that Vios is coming or not.
I had earlier read ( and posted somewhere ) that Tata is going to provide skin panels for Toyota small car. So its small car is coming for sure, but no information anywhere on Vios.

With the diesel, G3HC would be running for cover, but Toyota in India is too slow.

My information says that Toyota is planning to launch the Yaris hatchback in India in petrol and diesel forms sometime in January 2010. Nothing on the radar about the Vios sedan.
