Re: FY23-24 Luxury Car Sales in India - Brief Overview & Analysis

Any reason why we are not looking at lexus numbers? Does Lexus not publish figures or are they too miniscule to be noted here?

Unfortunately there is no data available for the luxury barges, namely: Mercedes-Benz S-Class (Regular model + Maybach + EQS), BMW 7 Series (ICE + i7 EV) and the Audi A8.
My post was aimed at the source

.

As an enthusiast, BMW X1 doesn’t make a compelling case because of the detuned engines. However, a friend of mine recently bought it and is extremely happy with it.

It’s roomier, modern, feature rich, offers good mileage and easy ingress and egress, looks smart and more SUV-ish in comparison to others (it has an upright stance).

0-100 timings are not great in comparison to others, but X1 doesn’t feel sluggish or powerless. It has ample of power for daily driving within cities. It could have used more power on highways, however, with more and more restrictions on highways, most people stick to 80-10 kmph speed, and it is here that it feels planted and composed.

For first time luxury car buyers, it seems BMW offers a safer bet. Add to that, the fact that BMW has an image of manufacturing more driver oriented cars which again attracts the younger generation towards BMW.

Only the X1 petrol is detuned. I am guessing majority of the sales would be from the diesel and that would continue as before. Detuned petrol is another reason for buyers to choose the costlier diesel.

Looking at the used X1s, diesel seems to be the fuel of choice.
