Could this be the Curvv instead maybe? Both cars are similar in terms of chassis and interiors anyway I guess! (Could be wrong)

Anyway, even though I don't like the idea of this, it will be a hit among the customers! Gone are the days when customers wanted better engines! They just want more and more tech these days.

Welcome move indeed. I don't buy the 'usability in our hot climate' argument, a glass roof is a glass roof. While a smaller sunroof is gimmicky and best avoided, I'm strongly in favour of full-sized panoramic ones. Occupants can "actually" enjoy the view outside while keeping the glass pane closed. Especially at night with clear weather, the vast glass area really uplifts the cabin ambiance. I was blown away when I experienced this for the first time as a passenger in the new Creta.

Also it is great to see features once exclusive to high-end cars trickle down to affordable segments. As GTO says, god bless competition!

Everyone is looking for a big sunroof these days, regardless of the car they are planning to purchase. A sunroof can play a deciding factor in the car-buying decision. It seems that TATA has realized this newfound love for sunroofs, especially panoramic ones, among Indians, and has therefore decided to add one. It’s quite possible that they will have it added to models like Tiago, Altroz, or Punch in their next facelift.

This might be a spy photo of Tata Curvv. Because the interior of higher fearless trim of Tata Nexon is all black, while in this photo it is white. Creative trim of Tata Nexon gets white roof liner. So are they going to offer panoramic sunroof in the mid trim as well?

Apart from all the missing features, most important thing is platform upgrade, they should have shifted to the new AlfaArc platform. It is long overdue as Nexon's X1 platform is quite old and heavy and needs to shift for weight and fuel efficiency advantage.

After experiencing the hottest summer ever, I really wonder why sunroof is such a craze. And I so often see people craning out their necks - kids especially - on highways, down the hill, in the city, and so on, it really is appalling. Our aam janata is really one of its kind.

Might be you do not understand. It is a prestige issue for a lot of folks here to have a car where their kids can stand up and look out through the sunroof. Also, the pristine air helps to rejuvenate the lungs.

They'll put every single feature in the book - right from the no-frills base model - except adding rear wipers and defoggers. Oh and one size down spares (two sizes down on some Tatas). Really appalling.

What they need first is, a platform change to their new modular platform to finally get the Nexon on the treadmill. It is one heavy car.

After that, rear disc brakes, and that direct injection turbo petrol they've been working on for so long.

Market is shifting to petrols, atleast for the small car segments. That 1.2 turbo petrol, while adequate, is sort of in no man's land. It is not the most powerful, it is not the highest revving, it is not the most fuel efficient and neither is it the most reliable engine.

I think Tata maybe overestimated the speed of electric adoption and slowed the development of their petrol motors. EV transition isn't happening at a massive scale for atleast another 10 years. Their fellow Indian brand Mahindra have outclassed them in the IC engine department, both diesel and petrol. Earlier, they had a slight edge in diesel, that is lost now. Mahindra petrols and diesels are more far refined and powerful.

• Nexon is yet to complete its 8-10 years lifecycle. In the next major upgrade it’ll definitely move to a modern platform.
• Mahindra focused on ICE engine development while Tata focused on EV. The same shows in the EV market share as well. No doubts Mahindra ICE’s are superior!

Took them long enough. The fact that they managed such decent sales figures with such a mediocre set of petrol engines when the market is making the shift to petrols just makes me wonder how much more succesful they could've been if they had great petrol motors right from about Tata 2.0 started gathering steam.

Still better late than never, I guess.

I think the lifecycle has been shorted to 6-7 years as upgrades are needed quicker than before. Nexon's current platform has outdone it's cycle but not got extended with the Curvv. So it may extend to another 4-5 years. Hope TATA quickly shifts them onto AlfaArc.

That is a wishful thinking. But it cannot happen except both face external threat, like that happened to American Auto companies after influx of Japanese cars. But they need to grow their own strengths and have the will. If not they would have had a JV or would have sold their business.
