The Peugeot Diesel XD3PU Engine in my old Bolero
Sportz 2005 model was a 2493 or 2594 cc naturally aspirated engine which made 65bhp. In 5th gear it would cruise on the highways. But overtaking at highway speeds requires that ‘power surge’ which was never there. It ran out of breath at the top end.
But the vehicle was tough as nails.

Spotted testing in Ranchi:

I have extensively driven the 1.5L RWD Thar and it is by no means underpowered. A few weeks back, we had to haul a boot full of grains (5-6 boris and each bori is 50kg) uphill toward Champawat in order to distribute wheat and rice for mid day meals in government schools. The 1.5L Thar had absolutely no problem dealing with the extra weight. Sure, it isn't as burly as the 2.2L but it's not weak by any chance. I am truly hoping that the 4-door Thar comes in the 1.5L guise in one variant.

Oh yes! i am familiar with this model, I've had the opportunity to drive this one for a couple of 100 kms, as was not impressed. When i test drove the new 1.5 it was so much better that it made the decision to buy one so much easier, not to mention the 1.5 has great fuel efficiency too.

if only Mahindra decides to brings out a 1.5 diesel 5 door thar RWD, it would be the perfect upgrade!

+1 to that! Fingers crossed! Obviously there is a market for it!

A 1.5L 5 door Thar already exists, called the Bolero Neo. Having driven a TUV for 90k kms, I definitely understand what you are talking about. Yes, there is a market but the 3 pot 1.5L engine with the 5 speed transmission is only about 90% there. Would definitely be great to have a 4 cylinder 1.5L 5 door RWD Thar, but I think that's just wishful thinking:D.

An important point. The Thar 3 Door is based on the TUV300, now the Bolero NEO.
The new Thar 5 Door which is yet to be launched, is based on the Scorpio N.

Haha lol: the Bolero Neo is actually a great product, but if only the design is redone, its somehow not old school nor is it modern!

Also if im not mistaken Thar 1.5 is the 4 cylinder 1.5L CRDe engine carried over from the XUV300 and Marazzo, unlike the 3 pot in the Bolero. If thats the case, we surely can expect the 5 door to have the same options, at some point.

I think the top-end variant of Thar might be equipped with some kind of camera-based ADAS features. The top-end variant with sunroof has this attached to the windscreen whereas the lower variants do not have it.

I couldn't find a clear image/video of the front, so I am just guessing here.

Could be a moisture sensor for the rain sensing wipers.

RWD 1.5L Thar runs on the 1.5L plonked in the XUV300, not the Bolero. It also comes with a 6-speed MT. It is a 4-cylinder engine and a very very good one.

Let's be honest, 75% of the Thar owners will seldom use the 4x4 prowess available. The 1.5L motor is more than sufficient to take care of regular driving. There is a strong case for this motor in the 5-door version which is reportedly less off-road focused.

75? I feel this number is more than 90% (with my limited experience with thar owners).

They hardly ever use the 4x4 with most of them never using it in their entire ownership!

Someone posted a video a a Thar 5 Door stick in light Mud.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3o2p...BiNWFlZA%3D%3D

It looks like to be on a RWD mode and now on a 4x4.. now make of that what you will..

Read somewhere, that it would have the 360 degree camera setup.
Might be a good thing - rear visibility wont be great, and the front overhang looks a little large.
Also an official announcement of release month ie June 2024
