I like the stance but I cant ignore that step up from the second door. Not sure on that angled rear quarter glass either. Im ok with that grille.
Anyway here is a comparo picture of my 3 door Everest White Rex with the Everest White Roxx :D

Oh no! that step above the second door. Exactly what I feared in light colors. Why was it needed in otherwise good design. Attachment 2640616 |
Will Mahindra say it resembles a Camel Hump based on the Thar Desert theme? rl:
I have a feel that the Roxx's practical design, being a spacious 5+ seat cabin and four doors boosts it's potential for another blockbuster from Mahindra. This utilitarian approach combines the rugged appeal of the Thar with the comfort and practicality of a larger car, creating a compelling proposition. I foresee that following this launch, the Thar + Roxx will climb onto top 3 sales in India.
Black masks the design issues perfectly well. If they tune the suspension on par with Scorpio N. It will be added to my garage.

I think that step above the door will slowly grow on you and won't look as bad in person. Though I do see a lot of people painting it black :D
At least they showed a light colored Roxx which shows the triangle window well (we would have known anyway in 3 days, but you know).
I am confused about the petrol/diesel debate. Have a 2018 Petrol Automatic Ecosport and am used to single digit FE. Was thinking of diesel this time but going through the 3 Door Forum, it seems in many cases, even the diesel is less economical than petrol! Go figure. |
Are you serious? I thought the Diesel Thar (3 Door) returns at least 12-13 kmpl in the city. Isn't that the case?

I think when OP said "less economical" he wasn't talking purely from the FE perspective but overall cost of servicing, spare parts, probable DPF issues, and resale value of diesel in Delhi NCR. I could be wrong though.

Would advise to go through the 3-door review page a bit. One example below (a lot depends on your style, all I meant was the Diesel Thar it seems, dont see that big an improvement in mileage vs Petrol, though I cannot generalise that). Current 3 door owners, if you can shed light.
As per below, 650km on highways, best case. 57L is the fuel tank size (I just Googled, not sure of this, as some capacity would be for adBlue in a separate tank). If 57, implies 11kmpl on highways, much less in bumper to bumper city.

++ The mHawk is a brilliant mill - it is pretty refined, has adequate oomph to propel the Thar to silly speeds. And that growl at 3500 RPM is pretty addictive!
++ 650+ KM tank range when driven sedately on highways, and can't get worse than 550KM is a blessing esp. when on ghats and offroad tracks. Blessing for someone as finicky as I am on where I tank up (close to 50% of all my refills across 52k KM have been in just 3 fuel stations, one each in each of the city I frequent!)
++ Revvs and catches up with what you want caught up with, thanks to the brilliantly tuned Aisin 6AT
<> Very rarely does the AT hunt, that too only when driven hard - which, more often than not, you won't
-- 2.2 liter mill + TC AT + aerodynamics of a brick. Best case mileage of 11 to 12 KMPL under your usual driving style and road conditions - milking anything more from the Diesel mill will need conscious effort

Eagerly Waiting for this to be launched! Kudos to Mahindra for making the Indian automotive scene a bit more exciting with such a launch.
Fair enough to say the biggest Launch of the year?

Simple remedies:
1. Paint the grill in black
2. Again paint/wrap that triangle part in black (I reckon all colours come with "Black coloured Roof")
3. Get used to it lol:
Not sure why they went for body colored grilles, they could have stuck to black

Yeah, the black color masks them beautifully
On your point 2, the after market guys will come out with a nice applique like the one in Defender. A dark grey or gun metal black will look good
It will start to grow on you eventually :)
The way they’ve designed the rear half to maintain the appearance of the 3-door has me wondering - is there a chance that Mahindra will replace the 3-door Thar with the Roxx?
Here’s a rudimentary edit I made on my phone. It makes the grille and the unsightly kink on the door frame more palatable IMO :p .

A simple colour change would be much neater.
