Volkwagen/ Nissan. which?

Nissan and Volkswagen are both new entrants trying to woo the emerging and expanding higher middle class in India.

Both have a distinct but diverse product line.

Nissan is the 3rd largest jap car maker while VW is the 5th largest worldwide.

If someone is looking to open a dealership, which would be more profitable?

A friend of mine owns a fiat dealership which is now defunct courtesy tata-fiat collabration. He has the necessary finance and infrastructure and asked me for an advice.

i would go in with Volkswagen here.
the model line up is impressive with the passat, phaeton and the touareg. they would also be bringing the jetta, golf and the new beetle to indian shores in due time. the models have acceptance in the market.
nissan on the other hand has got the x-trail and the teanna. the xtrail i believe has not been doing well and the market response for the teanna is still to be seen.
better economic sense profitability wise would say getting assosiated with a bigger brand that is volkswagen.

Get a Maruti or Honda dealership it will insure you will never be out of business. A Fiat dealership is like being on the edge of being out of business.

VW also has established brands in india like skoda and Audi and they have big plans for india..they have already come out with Passat, Toureg. toureg is doing great....ive seen it very often in NCR region. Nissan is not doing well with x-trail and cant say much about teana. VW is an established brand world over.

I would go with VW too. Like others have said, VW is setting up a brand new plant here and plan to launch a small car as early as next year. At the moment, it seems like VW has more concrete plans for India.

Also Dev, there could be a possiblity that VW, in the future, may upgrade a few of their bigger, better performing dealerships to VW-Audi ones like abroad.
