Rumour: Mahindra working on new monocoque platform which will debut on the Bolero

SCOOP: M&M Working on New Monocoque SUV Platform

Autocar Pro Report

The lighter platform, likely to debut on the Bolero, is expected to help future versions of SUVs clear regulatory requirements.

Mahindra has begun working towards a new platform that will develop softroader SUVs that will be the base of new range of vehicle segment when Mahindra is struggling to hold it's foot. The 3.8 to 4.3 meter segment. Mahindra is always quite powerful in it's forte the 4.5 to 4.7 meters segment that is helping it propel it's SUV demand. But to grow volumes it's current sub 4M segment the Ssanyong derived XUV300 platform seems to play a spoilsport. The platform also derives one more car, a 3 row SUV XLV in the Ssanyong portfolio that I thought Mahindra would get it, but the company just stopped short of launching here. I think the platform seems to have less of modularity in wheels size and wheel base.

Maybe for the very reason they have started working on new monocoque platform to develop range of Cars and SUVs.

Incidentally just saw this video where Hormazd mentions it around the 55.10 mark.

Was doubtful if it was true since there were extended versions and pickup trucks to be based on the same platform.

Pray that by going through the monocoque route, they don't end up with a transverse engine mounted FWD layout.

Monocoque and Bolero! That itself lends this to be classified as clickbait. While M&M would certainly like to have a monocoque platform for the sub 4m and sub 4.3 m segments, the Bolero most likely would never be a monocoque. We could expect a Bolero underpinned by the platform on which Thar and Scorpio are based.

re: Rumour: Mahindra working on new monocoque platform which will debut on the Bolero

The Autocar Pro write up is goofed up by the writer. He was confused and misunderstood all the products from Mahindra. I am doubtful if it will be the Bolero on the monocoque platform because recently Mahindra Thar Roxx was introduced on a new platform that was modified one of the Scorpio N. I think they should reduce the number of platforms. They have a seperate body on frame platform for Thar, Bolero, Bolero Neo that was previously TUV300, Scorpio and lastly but not the least Scorpio classic.

Now this is a soft roader platform capable of basic 4X4 or AWD and rugged vehicle like Bolero is misfit on Monocoque platform.

So which SUV it will be ?
At this point i need a XUV400 in ICE version. A proper Tivoli Dimension will remove its only drawback and enhance the look as well !

For this it will charter into Creta territory. The main issue Mahindra have is that they lack a 1.5L petrol engine. So until that is highly unlikely. Also Creta is 4.3m length, but XUV400 is only 4.1 meters. So it's in no man's land as per the size is at it would stray in 28% GST segment.

Does this mean there will be a new 5OO? I certainly feel there is a gap in their portfolio, and a new 5OO would slot in well.

Creta does need a challenger. Honda missed that opportunity with Elevate. Now the dimension of Re-Launched Tivoli is 4,225X1,810X1,613 mm. This is the ideal dimension to take on Creta. XUV 400 can be easily modified to this size.
The Lack of 1.5 L NA Petrol engine is a challenge which Mahindra Need to overcome.

Re: Rumour: Mahindra working on new monocoque platform which will debut on the Bolero

I did drive the Bolero N10 few days ago. It is owned by my Brother-in-Law.

Must say that it amplifies robustness yet the ride is not as bad as perceived. To be honest, I was expecting lot of body roll, but it is managed until one takes twisties at more than sane speeds.

Gets a Thumbs-Up from me.

But, at the same time, I fail to understand why would Mahindra try to change the platform to monocoque now. The owners of Bolero are a different market & the company can have a new product for the sake of differentiation.

XUV500 was supposed to be the Creta Challenger. They did display the 1.5L engine made jointly with Ssanyong Motors in the 2023 Auto Expo. Maybe they left the engine on the back burner for the reasons known only to them. Hope we'll see the engine in this reveal planned on their founders day on 15th August in the new reveal that should be a new Monocoque SUV Platform.
