Mahindra opens new design studio in Mumbai

Mahindra has inaugurated a new design studio in Mumbai. The Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) is located inside the company’s Kandivali plant in suburban Mumbai.

MIDS is said to be double the size of the old facility and employs over 100 designers. It will focus on products like last-mile commercial vehicles, small tractors, trucks and buses.

The new design studio houses three modelling plates and a 5-axis modelling robot. It can handle 1:1 scale models of truck cabins and more. It also houses a paint shop for clay models.

MIDS will work alongside Mahindra’s global design centre based in the UK.

Re: Mahindra opens new design studio in Mumbai

Oh, Fantastic! Brought back an old memory!

Had been there in April 2015. Almost 10 years ago! How time flies!

I got the opportunity to see how they work practically. Got a nice guided tour, met all of their talented designers and leads, had a practice session, a participation in an event, a photograph with Ramkripa Ananthan (which they didn't mail me) and some goodies. Had a memorable day.

Got to know that I could have joined them had I known better about that career path (which I know now) back when I was in college.

But doesn't feel like it was a decade ago!

I see that it has been made bigger. They had all the facilities in there even back then. I had seen large scale clay models of some of the currently in production (2020's) cars back then. They said that even creating something as basic as name badge takes weeks if not months. Learnt a lot.

Well, all the best to Mahindra! Love their design team.

This is good news. I hope this time in this studio at least they will test how bad the piano black plastics are for our dusty environment. My week old 9e shows so many micro scratches on the centre console.
