Re: Mahindra Thar variants rejigged; Convertible Top discontinued

I feel they discontinued the convertible top as the Roxx has panoramic roof which gives almost 75% of same feeling as convertible top without compromising safety.

Not really. Convertible top cannot be matched with sunroof.

Moreover, not having the top and doors will help getting out of the vehicle if there is a vehicle roll over during off-roading (speeds will be extremely low), could be a lifesaver.

The safety aspect of not having a roof applies to all convertibles - including the likes of Merc Cabriolets, BMW Convertibles like the Z4, and so on.

We have lost a true blood "jeep" to fashion statement and convenience is all I can say - and I'm glad I chose a CT right when it launched.

This should have worked IMHO. Indians love anything and everything "special" that makes them feel like "entitled". Who knows, maybe it would have increased the sales of the CT variant.

I think the security-while-parked-in-public-spaces aspect is the real reason behind the low demand and subsequent discontinuation of the CT. As we know this is something that's beyond the control of the carmaker, and the CT Thar indeed attracts attention! I have seen Mercedes GLS and Legender owners eyeing it with that unmistakable expression...

They could launch a Targa Top version instead. That would be a good compromise without reducing safety during accidents and from theft while still giving that open air feeling

Re: Mahindra Thar variants rejigged; Convertible Top discontinued

Just a thought - Maybe modifying Hard top to convertible will be moderately difficult in the case of the Thar since both examples are present in the market and Mahindra has already done it.

Has anyone tinkered with the Hard top Thar to make a convertible or a partial convertible?

Will be great to float some ideas.

Sorry, but I completely disagree with your above statement. I own a CT Thar and it is my daily drive. I have driven 35k in 1.5 years of ownership (my hightest mileage till date in such a short time). I also own 3 other vehicles but driving my Thar is therapeutic.
Mahindra should relaunch the Convertible Top with the facelift.
