Re: Toll exemption for EVs on eway, Atal Setu, Samruddhi for 5 yrs

Wow!!! Now that's what I am talking about. Free tolls can do wonders to EV adoption in the state. Some people might think that its a minor exemption which wont matter much, but its a great psychological win for the EV owner at every toll plaza. Tolls, lets be honest is on the higher side now.

This has to be a another noticeable tipping point now for EV adoption. Great decision, hope more states follow suit.

By the way, do EV FASTags have a special 'class' or marker, i.e. something that will identify them as an EV when energized by the RFID readers?
Doesn't need to, the number itself is a marker and the fastag/vaahan database will have a classification column for type of vehicle. Which will identify it as an EV.

Interesting sop indeed.

I wonder if the EV will still need to stop at the toll gate wait (pray) for the reader to work and the blessing to proceed.

I was secretly hoping EVs driving through without stopping will marginally ease the congestion at toll booths

The improved toll collection procedure uses ANPR tech. So I guess exempting EVs shouldn't be an issue.

Has anyone enquired at dealerships regarding the 10% subsidy? Is it off the price of the vehicle itself, or do you take it from the government? If it is from the government, what is the procedure then?

Time to set-up an EV taxi company and enjoy this "Ladki EV" yojana!
On a serious note, the electric taxis like BYD e6/eMax 7 definitely can enjoy this cost saving while promoting the service.

Re: Toll exemption for EVs on eway, Atal Setu, Samruddhi for 5 yrs

I just travelled from Mumbai to Pune in my MG Comet EV, was charged the full usual toll amount on the Mumbai Pune expressway. I asked the toll booth attendant about the exemption news, he said they've not received the Government Resolution (GR) hence no exemption.

Re: Toll exemption for EVs on eway, Atal Setu, Samruddhi for 5 yrs

The home charger set up is still cumbersome and expensive. We need to reduce friction in home EV charger installs, and make it a friendly, effortless process.

1. Maharashtra EV policy can mandate all electricity utilities licensed in the state to provide a separate EV charger meter in the parking lot, within 21days of lodging a request. (If utilities prefer the meter to be in a meter room for ease of reading, then the same rating wiring must still be up to the official parking space. Ideally, it will be better if these are smart meters that can be remotely read.)

2. EV meter requests and approvals to be completely online, including any 3rd party approvals like Co-op Housing Society NOC/approval. Maha govt has the database of all CHS societies in the state and their office bearers. Impose automatic penalties for delays in approvals. Delink it from EV brands/dealers.

3. The discovered rate for solar electricity + pumped hydro storage in tenders in Maharashtra was around ₹4.30/KWh. So, a flat consumer rate of ₹5 per KWh is fair for EV charging. Alternatively, offer a lower rate for off-peak hours charging on the EV meter.

4. Utility charges for installing the EV meter are high. It'll be good to move to a flat rate system for consumer charges, something like ₹10,000/- for EV meter and wiring up to the garage. (Only for residential consumers. Commercial customers and premises can be charged as per utilities' reasonable wish.)

EV owner can pay for any certified EV charger not exceeding connection load capacity (so a 7KW EV charging meter will only allow a 7KW charger to be installed).
