City Rover a.k.a. Tata Indica - Price Cut

Tata Motors and Rover finally realised what the customer already knew i.e The Tata Indica aint worth the asking price in the UK!

Faced with dismal sales in the UK (surprise?), the City Rover has had a price correction of GBP 500 or a whopping cut of almost 8%. By bringing the price down to GBP 5,995, the City Rover has been placed below the psychological GBP 6,000 mark.

In addition to the price cut, the base variant now comes with ABS, drivers air-bag and power steering. So the added value to potential customers is a lot more than just 500 pounds in their pocket.

Its still a hopeless buy in a developed market like the UK. there are just too many good small cars out there offering way more than the Indica can ever hope too.

Yikes, 500 pounds really is nothing. I was expecting loads more. Remember there are cars like Vauxhaull Agila, Fiat Panda, Ford Ka etc that offer better quality and better service backup. Rover is a dead duck anyways. They are focussing too much on the MG versions and getting into the Chinese market while their core competency is small cars. No wonder BMW left them high and dry in 1999.

+ a loan of 50 million + a lot of debt - directors have asset stripped the place and selling the rest to the Chinese. Tata's could have made a go of it !

Hopeless, that is not going to help Rover, the same way flushing out buckets of water wouldn't have saved the Titanic. For what is a very mature market, Rover should have been the first to realise, that the UK market is already used to much better products, when it comes to quality and feel, reliability and a better brand image. Trust me, with all the major British magazines blasting them for making a hap-hazard effort, it definitely didn't help matters.
