Maybe Tata would sell the Nano through the PDS:uncontrol. That way the car will be without engine/transmission by the time it reaches the customer
stupid:

Ajantha to challenge NANO with electric car

Read yesterday somewhere that TATA will produce 50,000 NANOs from their Singur plant this fiscal. 15000 will be rolled out between Sep-Dec and another 35000 in the last quarter of the financial year.

Expect a huge backlog of bookings.

Based on casual discussion with many relatives/friends/colleagues in the last few days, not many want to buy one. Somehow the excitement at the launch has dampened. Nano is being seen wrongly as mopeds are to motorcycles.

Even many first year recruits aren't too upbeat.

A car still features in their dreams but it just does not happen to be Nano.

Might be that a lot of jokes, cartoons of the car (a beggar begging from a Nano etc) have done it.

Would I buy one? Yes if I needed it. I love the way it looks.

Have they built the factory yet?

Maybe there'll be a factory backlog, never mind a orders backlog!

The work on the factory setup at Singur is on inspite of all the political problems. The setup would probably be only good enough to churn out 50000 cars (as mentioned in the press release by TATA) in this fiscal.

OT - During the Nano release press conference, Mr. Tata had mentioned that he was aware of who was creating these problems and would reveal who it is.
That should be quite interesting

Don't we all know its the Trinamool Congress leader, "The tigress of Bengal" (Gives me a creepy feeling everytime she screeches on camera) who takes the honors for all the strife in the region.

There could be more to it, though. Mr. Tata knows better and we'll wait to hear from him.

Does any one have a clue as to what percentage the Plant is complete?

June 2: Nano to roll out of Sanand plant

The Sanand plant of Tata Motors, where the world’s cheapest car, Nano, is to be manufactured, will be formally inaugurated on June 2. Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi will attend the inauguration.

DNA had recently reported that the plant was ready for commercial production and was likely to be formally launched soon. A source having close contacts in Tata Motors confirmed on Tuesday that the plant will be inauguratedon June 2.

“Ratan Tata will be present at the inauguration on June 2,” the source said, adding that the plant will be inaugurated by chief minister Narendra Modi.

According to officials, the Sanand plant will have an initial production capacity of 2.50 lakh Nano cars a year, which will be gradually increased to 5 lakh cars a year.

Tata Motors has invested around Rs2,000 crore for the Sanand plant which is spread over 1,100 hectare.

Trial production of the Nano at the plant started in January this year.

The plant was scheduled to begin commercial production in the first quarter of 2010 but that had to be rescheduled, said sources.

Tata Motors had originally planned to set up the Nano plant at Singur in West Bengal. The project, however, was shifted to Sanand in the wake of stiff opposition from farmers in Singur. An agreement for setting up the car plant in Sanand was signed between Tata Motors and the Gujarat government on October 7, 2008.

The Sanand plant, vendor facilities and service providers are together expected to provide employment to around 10,000 people.

Good news! This should free up the supply constraint for Nanos. What will be the Nano sales figures after that? 10,000+ per month could be very much possible, considering they have a capacity of 2.5L pa
