Toyota recalls 20K Innovas to repair defect

20,000 Innovas,Wow! Btw,in my view, this is honest of Toyota to do this.

Not every manufacturer would call back its cars if a fault was detected on a specific batch. Way to go Toyota! Toyota sure keeps its good name alive.

trust Toyota to take good care of its customer! :-)

Thats interesting, Innovas manufactured between April to October 2007 so I guess may be faulty parts during this period lead to this issue.

Good to see this honest looking recall story but may be marketing gimic ;)

Regards,

Ravi.

oh yes they would do it in a heart beat, because if someone finds out they knew a fault was present it represents gross negligence on their part which would amount to big law suits, it is cheaper and better for public relations to recall their cars and correct the fault.

This is a good move of correcting before it causes any damages.

Just because Toyota is a Japanese company we are quoting them to be "honest" "customer friendly" but if the same was done by an Indian manufacturer we would have trashed them to the core, blaming "QC", "sub-standard vendors" and Indian mentality.

Think about it.

What are they recalling the car for ? whats the fault?

EDIT: sorry, just now read the link:

"The problem, we have found, is in the differential carrier mounting nuts, which becomes loose, and on long usage could lead to oil leakage. It has been detected in about 20,000 Innovas,"

As per Times Now, the fault is with a nut in the differential of the vehicle which can cause the oil to leak and may even lead to the stalling of the vehicle.

A leak in the differential will not cause the engine to stall. A seized up differential might cause the engine to stall. But a seized up differential could be very dangerous and cause an accident. Toyota would be legally responsible so lets not praise Toyota's "altruistic" intent just yet. This is not a good explanation of the problem. The fault of the journalist? Or of toyota?

Good on Toyota to come honest about it, but they have sure been having an awfully high number of recalls lately, haven't they? Still....this customer-centric attitude has to be appreciated. Many manufacturers would just do a silent recall (change at the service without owners knowing), but then, the Innovas that dont use authorised service would miss out.

There are quite alot of Innova's used as Taxi's and mostly the Taxi's wont be going to authorised service. I had seen a Innova Taxi with the door colour different then the car colour, surely the paint job was done outside Toyota.

Let me be more specific. The differential oil leaks out. The differential then melts due to no lubrication. One or both rear wheels stop turning making the Innova, on a highway, lose control and crash into an oncoming bus killing 14 people. And, oh yes, just before impact with the bus the engine did stall because it could not move against the seized up differntial, driveshaft etc. This is not an altruistic "good neighbor" move by Toyota. They are trying to avoid law suits.

Oh yes, Differential malfunctioning can lead to a lot of problems.Even for non-faulty differentials the oil need to checked regularly in order to keep it lubricated. However, a differential oil can be detected in the initial stage itself, clear indication that the wheels start to jam, but they would not lock completely as the driver would much before that realize that the car is not performing to its optimum.Only if the driver persists ignoring the problem then would the wheels lock possibly leading to accident more likely at high speeds.

It is a good move by Toyota for whatever reason(legal or moral) to call back the Innovas specially considering how popular the car already is in the country. This will ensure that their customers have a safe and a pleasurable ride also maintaining the company's goodwill.

very nice of them ,but this is not the first time any manufacturer recalled their product in india ,msil had done it with the initial sx4 ,swift diesel ,now even omni.so the commitment of manufacturer doing this is wonderfull and encouraging so that we can go in for their products with a confidence,

Toyota is always like this. If anything is wrong, they will just do that extra bit. In past they had a water hammer problem, then also the Qualis Production was stopped in the assy line itself and after they received the new parts with new design, the production continued.
