On our TBhp Forum we have been witnessing serious debates recently LIKE Swift D vs Getz D . Now Palio D has also entered the scene . Some say the car is superb and some say its worse.
Why do we have different reviews on the same car. ???

Let me start with my idea.
Take for example the Swift as the base. (Just an example)
A person has been driving a Maruti Omni as his first vehicle for sometime and have been given the Swift to drive for the first time. What will he say?
---- The Swift has good engine , comfortable to drive , etc etc and will be very impressed with it . :Shockked:
Now suppose a person has been driving a Honda Civic for sometime and have been given the same Swift for the first time to drive. What will he say?
---- He wouldn't be much impressed with it due to rattling sounds , low build quality etc . :Frustrati

Different views by Different persons due to Different experiences .
Share your Different Views about the Different reviews on a Single Car .

(And Please don't start a debate on Omni Vs Swift Vs Civic here or Swift Vs Getz Vs Palio)

@undead, on t-bhp, you can always check up the reviewer''s public profile, his other posts, etc. for his biases, if any. That kind of transparency makes t-bhp, the community, more reliable.

You can always make out a person's biases and motives, if any.

yaar, even for same car, the tuning/current state (if its a dedicated TD car for eg) varies tremendously. Best to take multiple tries before deciding. And yes, their sigs give away their their allegiances :D

If everyone follows most of steps discussed in other thread (tips to consider during test drive of cars!) for test drive of cars, then it would not lead too many variations in test drive reports.

And sometimes, people also bring in 'brand of car' during a car review instead of concentrating only on car review/test drive report. Car brand can be looked while looking at 'total cost of ownership'.

Your views are correct. You know different people have different priorities and concerns. When we go through an initial driving impression or a test report we can compare our priorities with others and then come at a conclusion for ourselves. In these reports we come across different views and conclusions from different people. So in short one stop read for different views on the same product-T-BHP.
ram

To add to that, there will always be fans of certain brands who will always promote the cars of that brand. We have been seeing that in the case of some recently released cars.

That explains while i never felt that the wooden trim on the Getz D is bad. Many BHPians compared it with Swift and the older Getz model . Whereas i saw the car as a whole and the car itself and i liked the interiors .( i mentioned it in the Test Drive of Getz CRDi thread)

Even a guy who doesn't own a car or who's family doesn't own a car could write a biased review. He might have liked a particular car, aspires to own a particular model, despises some other and so there will always be an inherent bias.

Its not possible to have a 100% objective review.

What one can do is to go through different reviews and then finally make up one's own mind. One should not go by the TD review alone.

Everybody are entitled to their opinions as this is the public forum. But if you want to take any feedback from these reviews, then you have to go through all the reviews of a particular car and then arrive at the conclusion on the points TD'rs are informing matches with others. After reading this, you may get an opinion on whether the car is good or bad. It is also better after reading these posts, you also take a TD of the car to ascertain their views.

Factors affecting a review
1. Reviewer's preference - everyone has different preference like performance, looks and FE etc
2. Bias - Everyone has their likes and dislikes and it will influence the thoughts of the person. If one likes a car very much, even if you point a glaring defect to him he will still not dislike the car.
3. Past experinece - yes a guy upgrading from a omni will see almost any car higher than omni as great (maybe apart from looks) while a person downgrading will in most cases see the same car as bad.

If it had not been for these, everyone will be driving the same car :Frustrati

True. Everyone will have their own priorities, likes and dislikes, their own reference to compare. Few guys go in details like the interiors and the finishing but few just go by the overall driving experience. There are many factors that could effect the TD results like:

Very interesting!

Undead,

You have raised a question that philosophers (for ages) and quantum physicists (since the later half of the last century) have been grappling with - The objective view of the world (car, in this case).

Reality (the TD review, in this case) is subjective. We can at best arrive at consensus reality - set of people of having similar views. Rest assured, there will be different set of people having different views (Owners of hatches, SUVs and so on and again owners of Maruti, Hyundai and so forth)

Very simply, to each his own!

I mainly started this thread to make some people in our forum to understand that each and every person has their own tastes and preferences on cars and not to get into heated arguments between ourselves. So respect each persons views , doesnt matter even if they are wrong about something . And while reviewing a car , please try to be in a good tone , rather than using harsh words on the car itself. The cars have feelings too .:D

( The above statements weren't made with any personal intention on any specific BHPian , Thank You)

if everyone thought the same about cars, we would all be driving identical cars in each price range!

It is better to take the reviews as pointers and finally TD the vehicle yourself before buying. Its absolutely impossible that everyone has a similar review. Even the professional magazines don't.
