I remember very clearly my dad filling up his scooter at Rs9/L back in 1988. When VP Singh came into power, petrol price increased initially to Rs10/L. Then there was IRAQ war-1 and I think it increased further.
Back in 97-98, I remember (curing college days) putting Rs30 worth of petrol. That time it meant 1.1L of petrol+oil in my scooter.

I Agree, the cheapest I remember was filling for Rs 20 per liter. Used to fill 5 liters for 100 bucks :)
I know petrol was Re 1 per litre some point in time. But I don't know the year :).

I distinctly remember a Rs 5 price for a liter of petrol some centuries ago - although I cant seem to recollect the year. |
Rs. 3.25 per litre of Diesel for genset in my village. Petrol was Rs. 7 per litre - thats the cheapest I remember- some time in 1980 and for quite some time the prices were unchanged. When I started buying petrol for my bike it was Rs. 23 -24-25 per litre in Himachal, Punjab & J&K around 1992-93s .
I remember filling up 11.40 litres for Rs 100.00 in my dad's fiat 1100D.
around 13Rs/lt petrol in my Dad's Ind-Suzuki in 1986
The minimum i had filled in my 85" M800 was rs18/L :) ..... and it petrol felt expensive that time lol
I remember my uncle paying around Rs 5.0 per litre of petrol during 74/75 when i used to travel sitting on the tank of Yezdi.
Well, I remember the rate of petrol around Rs 9 / lit sometime in 1987-88 in Hyderabad. Personally fill petrol in my dad's lambretta at Rs 10.** / lit in 1990.
Not so long ago sometime in 2003, I used to fill my bike Rs 187 / 5lits, Look at where we are now in terms of fuel price:Shockked:
Abhi
Rs 1.5 per litre? or even less? This would be in the 60's (memory is fading though:)) I do clearly remember a brand new Fiat for Rs 9000 though!
Dollar to rupee something like Rs 3.50?
Meat at Rs 3 per kg
PS: Those were the days when we used our 8 cylinder 4.8 litre Packard to travel across to Bombay or Madras
Best part though is my parents remember times when the servant would be given 3 paise for vegetables and he would return with change after his shopping!!!
Better still my parents in 59 maintained an eight cylinder Chrysler New Yorker and a 48 Buick 8, partied two three times a week serving lavish food to friends on a measly income of Rs 300 per month!!

Whoops! Then my recollection prowess is definitely over-estimated !
Ive edited the timeline from an article in Aug 97, Auto India, giving fuel prices over the years, starting with 58 paise per litre in 56.:D
