OR I beat you hands down in the 'Carbon Dating' department lol:

Someone in the thread mentioned their family had a 1948 Buick 8 and that's something as we too had a similar car- the Roadmaster, as it was known, and shared many many happy memories in her -from 21 people piled in to a picnic in Juhu, to a bunch of wild and wayward teens driving to Bandipur with 1-2 amenable elders as chaperones... for a holiday in the summer of '76. The latter was some pilgrim's progress. We had a half dozen punctures if not more, and once the stepney was deployed, had to pull the wheel in question and ship it to the nearest town for repair. That meant the rest of us ate, slept (and pottied :)) in total abandon giving many Mandya/Mysore village folk a lot of grey hairs and lessons in lack-of-culture. We swam in the canals, ate sugarcane from the fields, and finally reached our destination in the jungles of Mudumalai (Quiet Corner) at the same time as the other car-loads that left perhaps a day after we did.

Those were the days when the journey was ALL the fun...the destination was only a side-effect. Boy, did we have fun.

In 1979 I think it was around 3 rs a litre - I remember that the price of a balcony ticket in Agra - and a litre of petrol were about the same

I remember paying Rs.11/- per litre of Petrol during 92/93 on our first Maruti 800! And diesel those days was around Rs. 8/- per litre!

17 Rs/Litre. I used to take a 50 Rs note from my Dad and fill up 3 litres in my first 2 wheels... LML Vespa Select II

That was me Netchef. I too have fond memories. My parents American friends had gifted them a child seat which used to hook onto the seat back so I (must've been 3 or 4) almost sat at my father's shoulder height beside him as he drove. Being the large car that it is I remember feeling it to be like a palace inside!!!

Often I would accompany Dad while he would meet up with friends for breakfast, you know some restaurants served food on a tray clipped onto the door, hot steaming idlis eaten in a fabulous Buick 8 lol:

Those were the days. Sorry gentlemen for going :OT

Used to pay Rs. 20 per litre in pune during 1994-96.

almost same amount in 1995,in my first 2 wheels... bajaj super.

When i...
Now i pay Rs 50/- for 1 liter for my swift,palio & pulsar 180.

I think i will be paying Rs 100/- per liter in the year 2010:Frustrati.

I remember filling up my Luna TFR for Rs. 12/liter in Nagpur, in the late 80's. I got my 2 wheeler license in '92 but, I used to sneak out with the TFR years before when I was in school. I even filled 1/2 liter for Rs. 6/- in the TFR quite a few times for joyrides in the area! I am amazed to know how many people on this forum started their tryst with automobiles with the Luna.

Once I remember taking the Luna TFR to my school 4 kms away without my parents knowing it on a Saturday morning, because on Saturdays my school was from 7 am to 9.30 am and the traffic signals would come on only at 10 am! Wow those were the days!

When I started sneaking out with the family Premier Padmini (that was quite a daring thing to do!), I remember filling her up for Rs 18/liter.

DKG, palace it was. And to a little kid the dimensions were perceived as colossal. Would you know of a Buick 8 in original condition for sale? I learned to drive in that car and would love to own one some day.
Sorry, didn't realise I was off topic when I penned that para.

the cheapest that i had paid was Rs.22.50/- per liter of petrol!

The cheapest I paid was 9Rs or 9.50 (dont remember exactly) in 1986-87.

The Lowest I have paid for petrol is Rs. 40/- in 2003, when i got my license.
now I pay 52, and find it quite expensive, I wonder how my dad feels, cause he bought his first car for 1800/- a second hand fiat (the old one - dukkar, people called it in bombay), filled in petrol for Re. 1/- and drove to the Taj and downed a pint of beer at the sea lounge for Re. 1/-....

I am buying my first car for 500 times the cost of his first car, fill petrol for 52, and have a midnight soup with my girlfriend at the sea lounge for 350/- ..... the 70's feel quite Groovy !

I remember filling Diesel for 11 rupees a litre back in 1999 or so.
