Mini not coming to India in 2009

According to TOI dated April 20, 2008.

BMW has postponed the plan of Mini launch stating the "market does not appear to be viable" according to feasibility study.

BMW President Peter Kronschnabl : "We will not be launching Mini in India in 2009".

Doesnt make that much of a difference. Would have been a copmplete no-no anyways. It would be too expensive for india.

@Mods-Shoudnt this thread be in the Indian Car Scene??

now that the fiat 500 is launched at 15 lacs and that too a diesel can the mini be expected anytime soon (in petrol plz)

Lets hope so !! I have been keeping my fingers crossed for the mini for a while and their announcement in april against the launch was truly disappointing

If the fiat500 gets some success, i hope bmw learn from it and get the mini in as it has a much larger appeal and fan following.

Producing the mini in India maybe wishful thinking for now as bmw has its capacity tied up with the 3 & 5 series.
The mini can come in as a lifestyle vehicle via the CBU route.
