Loads of sceptics here, as I can see. Playing the role of a silent spectator for now.
Personally, ATs never appeal to me.
hmm.. five pages of discussion over a 3 page report in autocar, guess thats the effect of the scorpio AT :)
when's the official launch btw? the service centre guys here have no clue about the AT or the bolero crde. they were suprised when i told them about the scorpio AT.
one thing i can say for sure is, it will do well, loads of people are waiting for a proper diesel auto suv, me included.

Hey is there a clutch plate in an A/T ? all it has is a set of gears suspended in some kinda fluid. And except for the brake pads nothing else is going to be any problem, A/T are less problematic in my opinion. |
yea, i think it consists of a fluid flywheel and a torque converter!

Only if it proves to be a decent box over time. |
even big companies like honda and toyota has faced its fair share of problems when launching a new product. mahindra is no different. where it should prove its mettle is with lightening quick response time to solve the issues, if any!

i am proud of the fact that mahindra has taken this initiative. it is the first indian company to do so and their latest technologies are worth to be appreciated.
Why are people already doubting the reliability of the transmission?? Has it been developed in house by M&M? I doubt that. In all probability it is manufactured by a dedicated transmission making company (ZF, Aisin, Graziano etc. etc.) and adapted for use in teh Scorpio by M&M. This is how it works worldwide even for cars like the 7-series, so is it really different here?
Does anyone have any more concrete info on this 'box?

the 6 speed auto is manufactured by Drivetrain International Systems of Australia as was chosen as much for its number of ratios as for its easy mating to the mHAWK engine. this gearbox is also used in the korean Ssang Yong Actyon and the Actyon sports pickup.
it has 6 ratios, the first 4 of which are closely spaced, the rest more spread out for relaxed highway cruising and maximised fuel efficiency. there is even a winter mode that helps starting off on slippery surfaces with minimum wheelspin.

It is basically indian mindset to be blamed. Most of us keep asking "what if" statements for everything around. i consider that as bull****. please:
Hi,
From autocar Sep 2008 review of the Scorpio AT:
> it has 6 ratios, the first 4 of which are closely spaced, the rest more spread > out for relaxed highway cruising and maximised fuel efficiency.
The gear ratios and speed per 1000 RPM are:
3.536 - 08.79
2.143 - 14.50
1.478 - 21.03
1.156 - 26.89
0.866 - 35.89
0.677 - 45.92
The final drive ratio is 4.3:1 with a tyre size of 235/70R16. RPM in 6th @ 100kph is mentioned as 2200.
Max speeds in the different gears / RPM are as follows:
34/3900
55/3900
79/3800
101/3800
135/3800
157/3400
The 0-60 timing is 5.95 and 0-100 is 15.39.
Any errors would be mine!

Please do not make generic sweeping statements like this. Indian mindset and the likes.
Most of us ask questions because we would like to be informed about where we are investing our hard earned money. And these questions automatically die if the product proves itself in the market.

These are the links I was able to find on the transmission manufacturer :

@FourWheelDrift :
do remember not to copy -paste from another utility - it leaves text formatting in your post, as above. Alternatively, you can use the "remove formatting' feature on the copy-pasted part to clean up the text.
There are quite a few Automatic models already in markte but the sales numbers are not as good as manual models
What may be the possible reason if M&M can over come those probably Scorpio AT would be crossing the barrier
I have following questions.
(1) Is it true that fuel efficiency drops with AT ?
- Seems unlikely to me because an automated system can take better decision on correct gear ratio then human.
(2) Is AT more prone to wear and tear under Indian conditions of stop and go traffic and pot holed roads ?
(3) If answer to above two are no then is the cost only reason behind
AT not being a runaway success like elsewhere in world ?
Regards
Amit

have read reviews about the scorpio A/T in autocar india and what car. they seem to say its an impressive vehicle with no loss in FE and performance. waiting for somebody with a real hand report or maybe i have to go and TD the vehicle myself!

Whoa :Shockked:
It's tough to achieve, but if they have then its kudos and the car should do well.
yes they say the vehicle is slower in 0-100 kmph by only 0.5 secs than its manual counterpart. the FE is the same!
In india if an automatic comes with a FE match of the same manual, there will be an avalanche demand for the same atleast in the cities where traffic runs at snails pace
