Fiat is facing a slowdown this year and are tipped to miss their profit targets by upto 35%, just a year and a half after they returned to profits. So are Renault & Peugeot-Citroen.

All of them are looking to diversify to other markets or turn into suppliers for other brands in an effort to keep their bottom lines intact. That makes it easier for those who want to source drivetrains and other major components. Maybe we'll see Jags and LRs powered by Fiat or Peugeot engines and Mahindra vehicles powered by Renault in the future.

From the report, the Tata-Fiat JLR plans appear to have a wider scope covering not just powertrain sourcing post Ford's exit but also architecture, design and platform collaboration. Earlier, there were reports that Fiat is interested in JLR's rear wheel drive technology through Tata. Either way, it's good for the health of the Tata-Fiat alliance, with Fiat needing Tata as much or more as Tata needing Fiat.

This is certainly a good move by Fiat to join hands with Tata for JLR. Hope they utilize the tech available with JLR to the best and collaborate with tech of Fiat and i'am sure they may build a much awaited fuel efficient 4x4.
