Swift JTD only from end of 2006

At least, that's what I got from this Times of India article.

BANGALORE: Maruti Udyog Ltd, India's largest car maker, will develop its diesel engine by the end of 2006, a top company official said on Wednesday.

"The diesel project should be completed by the end of next year," Jagdish Khattar, managing director, told a news conference at the launch of a driving school.

Maruti, which is 54.2 per cent-owned by Suzuki Motor Corp, will develop the engines using a license the Japanese firm has from Italy's Fiat SpA.

They talk of an engine developed under license from Fiat, which can only be the JTD engine destined for the Swift.

Well, atleast the JTD's are coming some day. Some people on this board were worried they may never see the light of day because of the Fiat-GM breakup.

Oh darn! I guess my only option will be a certain home grown car maker's turbocharged contraption.

That means Palio JTD will be here in 2007. Bad news! And we are still talking about the 1.3 Multi-Jet 70hp unit. No news on the 1.9 100hp unit(Some Alfa's have a 1.9 150hp one too). I believe Fiat has moved onto JTDM engine now. THeir new croma has the all new 2.2 ltr JTDM unit that gives out a thumping 200+bhp!

Hey amit,
Whats JTDM?
Sounds pretty cool.
Hope they can launch it sooner.
Maybe a tie up with TATA or someone who works faster because maruti launches new products in India when they have become passe in foreign countries.

Even i would like to know more about JTDM. But i am not sure if JTD & JTDM are different units. The new Alfa Romeo 159 (and not the Croma as i mentioned earlier) has 2 JTDM engines powereing it: 1.9 and 2.4. I had posted pics of the car and the linky earlier but here it goes again. Alfa Romeo 159

this is news !

Tata works fast towards improvimg its products not launching new ones . if tata's were proactive in the market and got the CRDI technology for the safari on track earlier and faster - they would have the best selling SUV in the market......but...........................
