New Tata Indigo TDI: With InterCooler Turbo

I happened to go to the TATA Service centre for the 10K service and the Service Advisor told that Indigo Turbo with InterCooler is available for Sale from April-1 onwards.

On request they showed the new Indigo TDI vehicles parked in their godown.

I lifted the bonnet and found a wide intercooler fitted just above the Cylinder head.

The TATA guys claims better pickup and an improvement in mileage to around 22 kmpl on highways...

When asked about retrofitting the Intercooler for old Turbo Indigo, they said its not very difficult to do so but couldnt comment on the costs.

why is tata so secretive about it ? if they would have "leaked" it out I think many of recent buyers might have waited for the launch

Awesome man! The extra ponies will only help the Indigos cause.

Now when will they launch a turbo + intercooler in the Indica?

Cool find buddy,
any changes to the body.
Isnt the new indica meant to be launched sometime now?
Maybe they have revamped the body again and made it look sexier.

Hahaha...thats probably exactly why! (my sympathies though...)

And as for the indica "sport" or anything that's a more fun indica... well its been around for years, but it just seems that they are having too much fun testing it to start any kind of production.
However, the strange truth is, a year or two of delay before launching a car like this could make a huge (positive) difference to how well it does...especially at a time like this in the indian automotive scene.

Could this be true ? Tata, shifting to TDI silently. Isn't changing from IDI to TDI is big thing (in terms of R&D and capital) ? If it all this is true, why couldn't they gone straight to CRDI ?
What ever tech they use, I am eager to see Indica with power to weight ratio near those of other small hatches (WagonR, Santro).

hi skidrock,
changing an naturally aspirated indirect injection diesel engine to a turbocharged one doesn't involve as much costs in r&d as developing a common rail direct injection, as in the former, the head does not need to be reworked majorly, but while designig the latter, the entire block has to be redesigned in terms of direct injection ports on the head, accomodation of oil/cooling lines on the block, etc.
thus, converting a naturally aspirated indirect injection to a turbo idi is not such a big deal as compared to making it a crd-i.
and guys, the turbo, intercooled indica will hit the showrooms pretty soon; possibly before diwali.
with both the indica and indigo going turbo-intercooler, expect class ripping performance and fuel efficiency! (read: palio diesel & petrol, santro, suzuki swift 1.3jtd for indica, and esteem, and others including lancer diesel, for indigo, though the lancer's a whole class higher than indigo) .
