Dear all,

After the much debated news of Honda cutting Civic Hybrid price by whooping 8 lacs,

I recently saw a news paper advertisement in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, says Honda Civic 1.8 E is now only at 10.8 lacs (Ex-showroom), so almost 50,000 discount is given.

I wonder what Honda is planning to do.

May be Civic is going to be replaced soon. (Honda tradition)

Wait for a while & u can get a good discount on Honda City & Accord too!:D

Wow! Wonder why these car-makers are hell bent on earning the curses of those who bought their wheels - and Honda at it - AGAIN?!! Surprising!

I hope these ones are actually available unlike the previous ones which were apparently "sold out"!

All of this is just to kill the sales of the new altis, Honda has sold enough of their civic model and now all of this is just stock clearance.

Good smart move, makes sense too.

I think they are simply clearing up the 2008 stocks, nothing more to it. Wonder why the discount is not extended to the 1.8V?

wow thats a good move , and good for the consumer either ways ...

E variant still needs a correction. Now its similar to Corolla Altis prices and its not loaded as much.

This is probably to clear stock so the 2009 car can be rolled in. I hope they keep the price though.

10.8L is still robbery for a car that has no alloy wheels IMHO.

How many Civic E's does one see. I have only seen 5 ever - so they obviously do not move

Agree with you Ajmat. I have seen just 2 so far in NCR region. The car lacks the features expected of a premium sedan. Saw a Corolla Altis yesterday, must say it looked awesome inspite of being a low-end model. The paint finish was spot on and so was the glimmering dashboard and center console at night.Needless to say that its a more complete car as compared to the Civie-1.8 E at the same price of 11.5 lacs on-road Delhi.
With an overall grim situation and Altis taking away a share of Honda's pie, Honda has suddenly become more agressive on the price front. Though it hurts if someone has bought the same spec'ed car at a higher price just a few weeks back.
They are facing the heat in these two segments from Maruti/Ford/Hyundai and Toyota in the Civic category.I have suddenly started seeing lot many Verna's recently.
I won't be surprised if Honda throws in a fully loaded ANHC soon at a competitive price.

I havent seen even one Civic E yet but surprisingly there are many more base model corollas on the roads now, the ones without alloys

All of us hope so. But then Honda would have to decide between to sell more of ANHC top end or the Base Civic E. As the top end ANHC would easily breach the 10 lacs on road price .

I think they want 2008 stocks of E to clear faster. Since they might have more inventory of it. Maybe mid Dec they might offer discounts for 1.8 V.
I think someone mentioned facelift Civic coming only in March 09.

As per me the reason for dip in Civic sales are as follows.
1. No more a VFM with the Altis launch.
2. Not so great ground clearance.
3. Not so great After sales of Honda, when one buys a car worth 12 lacs.
4. Overall slowdown in the auto industry.

Facelift won't help if the shortcomings of ground clearance and lack of features as compared to competition are not addressed. Civic looks good even today, so facelift should rather target ground clearance and features.

Probably clearing out old stock as mentioned for the slightly face lifted version to be released in the near future. 50K is a pretty good discount, anybody know of other manufacturers providing such discounts ??

:OT How much of a difference is there in maintenance of Civic & Altis?

There should not much difference in the maintenance costs. But civic's suspension issues could make the difference.
