another view,

Any cars bloted out are prone to accidents.

In case of swift also once you sit in side , some time in a bumper to bumper
trafic judging may go wrong.First one should get used to the shape and
perfect gaging is required to avoid dents.

This is my view only.

Thanks

Duh!! lol: Its known as "BUMPER RAIL" in Hyundai Service Stations, don't know about other companies calling it "crash member" etc.

I had heard of "Crossmember" but "Crash member" havnt heard.:D

It is not just a radiator protector. It is also used for the triggering of air bags and also aagoswami has pointed out in high sped impacts it is used to distribute energy. The air bag deployment sensors are just behind this bar.

OT: I once hit a stray dog that ran out into the middle of the road at about 60 kmph. There was absolutely no damage to the bumper except for a minor cut which is not even visible. It is this bar that protected the bumper from caving in.

How far is it away from the radiator? and also wanted to know how lamp brackets are welded to the bumper rail.

Not sure of exact length. My guesstimate would be between 3 & 4ft long.

It might things if somebody can post pictures of the "bumper reinforcements" on Santro and Swift. I know for sure that my Swift has a round metallic rod running from left to right just in front of the radiator. But Gangsta says that is only a radiator protector.

Anyways this is what i was talking about.

I bet you guys are getting confused bet. the supporter and the actual beam aka bumper rail aka bumper reinforcement bar.

This is the cross section of the bumper.

There are 2 bars in the cross section.
1. Close to the radiator.
2. 3-4 Inches away from the inner plate.

Swift has this thing in the 3rd pic. close to the radiator. Check out the 2nd pic., this is not present in the swift. This is what i was talking about. Now if you are saying you see 1 bar near the radiator, then hyundai cars have 2 lol. because support will be there in the cars and the other hand bumper rail is also there in Hyundai cars.

Please check out your swift once again in the daylight. You wont find 2 bars in Swift. i.e the one close to the bumper plastic cover. It is Hollow.

Push your bumper with a thumb and it will go inside because it is hollow. Try pushing with same force in Accent, getz etc. It wont press that much because rail is covered with a hard foam and then we have bumper plastic means its not hollow.

It is very much present in the swift. It's just a different design. That is all.

2 beams? are you sure? But you said there is only 1 beam just infront of the radiator. Now you are saying there are 2 bars in swift. You tried that thumb pressing of the bumper?

Check again in the day light.

Different Design in the sense?

It is not 2 beams. It is just one. It consists of two heavy gauge steel tubes held together by three plates. Two at either end and one in the center. This part is just below the bumper. In fact when you push the front bumper inwards you will notice that it moves in about half an inch and then stops moving. This is the piece that stops the bumper moving backwards. The distance between this and the radiator will be at least a couple of inches.

Edit: Will be opening my car's bumper for some headlight wiring work. Will get you snaps of the same.

What if it touches that radiator support?
What if the bumper plastic is designed like this only?
Well..!! go for the snaps. We will cont. it after the snaps. Cheers mate cheers:

Raking up an old thread, but I was curious to know how the beams are in the Swift.

Are they same for the Petrol and Diesel variant?

Anurag.

Attaching a picture of the beam for reference. This belongs to the petrol version, don't know if it is the same for the diesel version as well.

Thank you Vikram Sir for the picture.

I guess due to intercooler and MJD the beam had been compromised.

Anurag.
