2,350 Mercs in India to be recalled

but i didnt quite get it.what exactly is the problem with all these cars??

it is just replacement of some defective braking controler.it is not urgent and u can do it during routine service.

Its even happened before. MB had recalled ALL A-Classes to make suspension alterations and install ABS in it, since the car rolled in a test-drive and caused a huge controversy. They do care about their customers. You can see it here again.

I think Gordon... it wasn't ABS in the A-class case... it was ESP that was installed onto all of them along with newer tyres from another manufacturer. If i am not mistaken, the older tyres were from Michelin and Bridgestones were re-fitted in their place.

Revv

True, it was the notorious ELK test. Mercedes cares more about it's reputation and sales figures, than it's customers.

Guys

Its a worldwide recall that will apparently cost Diamler Chrysler a few hundred million dollars.

We've received a call at the office for the two Mercs in the fleet as well - I personally dont find anything 'wrong' with them but if they think that something MIGHT go wrong then so be it.

I wonder if GTO and Lambo have received Recall Notices for their mercs...

Cheers

i too totally agree that merc takes its name and prestige very seriously.
a friend had a s classe and apparently the batch had some problems with the metal/paint...they called him and replaced the door free of cost..even though he insisted that he did not find it necessary they forced to him to do it as they were orders from Germany.

Aren't we missing the point here? I put this up because I believe Mercs shouldn't have to be recalled in the first place. I mean, they used to be the by-word for quality. Coming from such an illustrious heritage, this is hardly what you'd expect. I mean, is this truly the future of the automobile?

@revtech -- problems include battery/electricals as well as braking systems.

Well a car is a machine after all. Its unreasonable to expect any car to run 100% reliably for 100% of the time. The main point though is that Merc have admitted the problem and are going out of their way to correct it not only for the future but also for the present. I guess this step does not make Merc customer caring as this is what we expect.

hmmm....people so supportive of mercs !!

i dread to think what the views would have been like if this had happened with say Ford or Fiat !! people would have gone all out ..bared their claws and torn into the companies....

but becoz its mercedes benz ....or .......

cheers

oh sorry sorry, my mistake, I have no idea why I typed ABS, it was the [Electronic Stability Program] ESP for sure.

Spot on! After all the problems that Mercedes had, now braking problems! As a client of mine put it : "His S Class wouldnt start first. Repaired. Then it wouldnt move (missing and crazy idling). Repaired. Now thats hes finally got it to move, hes expected to take it back to the garage for coming to a halt!!

There is a lot of action going on with my Mercedes too. I will post a separate comprehensive thread to cover the pitiful experience.

GTO

Hmm it does look like the Daimler part of DC is learning from Chrysler and not the other way around (as it was intended to be).

Trust the Americans to go in and screw up a perfectly good setup...

yeah, MERC: the recall because they care about Quality. Bull.
they did something stupid and let their cars roll out from their assembly.
Fiat or Ford, we would be saying bad cars.
Frankly, they are the cars being over-hyped and over rated.
