Has anyone heard about the new J variant of the Altis? Specs attached. I can't find any other threads about it. The Delhi dealers are offering it since the last three days.

It's a basic version, lower than the G variant. Compared to the G, it is missing the following:

SRS Air Bags (Driver + Passenger)
HID Headlamps with Retractable Washers
Front Fog Lamps
Front Seat Belt has no Pre Tensioner and Force Limiter
Inner Rear View Mirror is not auto anti-glare
Seat Security Lock
Keyless Entry
Immobiliser + Alarm
Power Door Lock missing Vehicle Speed Autolock
Intermittent Wipers missing Variable Time Adjustment
Impact Sensing Fuel Cut
Windshield Glass missing Top Shade
Outside Rear View Mirrors are not retractable
Steel wheels with full wheel cap instead of Alloys
Wheel - presume this is the 5th wheel missing?
Outside Door Handle is Body Coloured rather than Chrome
Rear Luggage Garnish is Body Coloured rather than Chrome
Radiator Grille is Black rather than Chrome
Side Protective Moulding is Body Coloured rather than Chrome Insert
Door Belt Moulding is Black rather than Chrome Plating
In-Car Entertainment System
Audio controls & MID Switch on Steering Wheel
Wireless Audio Remote
Speakers x 4 rather than 6 (presumably tweeters missing)
Overhead Console has a Card Holder rather than Storage Box and Personal Lamps
Inside Door Handle is Interior Colour rather than Silver Finish
Seat material is basic fabric rather than high quality
Steering Wheel is 3 spoke urethrane rather than 4 spoke leather
Center Cluster & Door Armrests are silver finish rather than wood finish
Door Scuff Plate Ornament
Shift Lever & Knob are PVC rather than Leather + Silver Finish
AC is manual rather than automatic
Front Door Courtesy Lamp
Console Box missing Upper Tray
Combination Meters are Analogue rather than Optitron (3D)
Rear Seat Split Foldable (60:40)
Rear Seat Centre Armrest
Sliding Front Armrest
Vanity Mirrors (Driver + Passenger) missing lamps
Coat Hooks x 2
Subkey

Priced at 9.60 lakhs (Delhi ex) compared to G model price of 10.65 lakhs (Delhi ex).

The big question is: why is Toyota doing this??? Who will buy such a hacked down car? If a buyer is willing to spend 9.60 lakhs on a car, he will surely spend another 1 lakh to get all of the above features. I'm sure all of the above is worth far more than 1 lakh!

This really seems crazy from Toyota. If they are trying to compete with Civic E (9.90 lakhs Delhi ex) variant then I think it's pointless because the Altis G variant is already doing that fine...

Interesting catch. I guess a J makes sense considering the way E version helps Civic, but they went overboard with the cuts. They should have kept the airbags at least!

sub 10L pricing is relevant for some areas. For example Civic E is priced at 9.99L in Bangalore to avoid the 4% additional tax on 10L+ cars.

They don't even offer HIDs in the G model, why would it be there on the J?

If this version has been launched, it was inevitable. The J version would be for commercial people, and also for people who wanted a Corolla, but were put off by the high pricing. It seems a similar strategy to the previous Corolla HE.

It is clearly launched against Civic E.

But the car is so basic, & lacks vital features that, just like Civic E, it will also not sell in good numbers.

This also interests the taxi segment. Personally I would have considered it if it had airbags. Alloys you can get. ACC will be missed but not something I can't live without.

Seat belt without pretensioner in a 9.6 lakhs car? Its a day light robbery!!! Common on, I know Toyota is being stupidest in India. But there is a limit! Then, how is it possible to get a car without sparewheel, homologated? I heard one BMW model was refused by ARAI(?) because it was missing its sparewheel (but it had a tyre tech that can go on for another 100kms or so, even it is punctured! Correct me if iam wrong. I read this some time back... not sure exactly when and where.

How much they could earn by not doing this "Windshield Glass missing Top Shade"?

And the difference is 100k almost? I will kick their a** and will not even spend a penny on toyota!

Btw, I request you guys don't even think of buying these cars esp if they treat us like crazy. Go and buy a homegrown one like Mahindra who also gives value for your hard earned money. There is no magic in quality. I rejected Toyota after did a thorough check up about their cost of ownership and bought a scorpio (just compare a Innova's ORVM price with a Scorpios!). We need to group ourselves and teach these guys a lesson. Can they do this in any other western country? Not even in developing countries like Malaysia or Brunei!

This doesnt make sense..because CIVIC E MT model is just 10.4 ex showroom & their next model is 12.05 ex showroom.. there is a huge difference in pricing..

and what you dont get in E MT is automatic side mirrors, alloys, leather seats, 6CD changer(but u get single cd changer), map lights, fog lamps etc..all others are same as VMT..

Civic E MT is 9.99L Ex. in Bangalore. Probably special pricing for Bangalore to beat the 10L+ price. At that price, it beats the Altis J silly as its much better equipped.

Launching a variant under Rs 10 L made sense. But chopping off so many features makes the deal ridiculous. They have probably removed features worth 2L when compared to 1.8 G.

Toyota seems to have factored in a 50k discount that it would start doling out in a few months :D

Are you sure it is the J version? For all you know it could be the E version, with J version schduled to be released in the next 5-6 months at a price range of 9L :D

Anyways, this will put pressure on ANHC for sure as even their topend is a stripped down version anyways :Frustrati

New City was making a dent in sales of cars like Corolla, sub 10L tag will give some respite.
Also, discounts were already abound on the new Corolla, so a stripped down version was much expected.

looks like toyota will drop the idea of a diesel corolla after this launch.
are the reports confirmed?

Sorry guys this is :OT
You are right with the BMW story.
With BMW's run-flat tyres technology, a punctured run-flat tyre can run for 200 km at a speed of about 80kmph without the car losing stability or facing any safety risk, before it has to be replaced. This has made a spare-wheel inside its car trunks redundant. In fact BMW now designs its cars with no space for storing a spare-wheel. However Indian regulations make it mandatory for every manufacturer to provide a spare-wheel with the cars they sell in India else the vehicle would not be homologated

I doubt this claim of no fifth wheel in the J version.

well, what more can they remove now from this version? A front and a back tyre? Steering wheel? :uncontrol
