Currently there is a lot of difference between the Laura and Superb's looks but the new Laura will narrow the difference significiantly. From the pictures, the headlights, grille, steering wheel and a bit of the center console like A/c knobs and controls and the audio screen are extremely similar to the Superb. This commonality of looks was one of the main reasons why the earlier Superb failed. Skoda seems to be going on the same route again. I don't think the difference in diesel engines is going to help the Superb out much.

Infractions: 0/1 (7)

the 2 engines have been finalised for the Indian market:

2 litre TDI PD
1.8 TSI

both are the same engines as the superb and will be launched here in June.

source: skoda service training (don't ask from where.)

I have been told by the local dealer here that 1.8 TSI is not going to come in the facelifted Laura at the moment.

ACI has reported the same in their latest issue.

VW's strategy is a bit confusing. With VW cars coming in, I thought new technology would be first launched in VW's, the fact that Passat now comes with a CRDi engine and the new Superb soldiers on with the PD was proof of that. But now they are giving the CRdi to the Laura and having the Jetta retain the PD unit

Anyway, I hope the new engines in the new Laura will not result in Skoda launching the car with a new name (Skoda Flora).

PS: I really hope ACI's report is true because the same issue has insider info on some improvements being made to the Linea by the end of this year .

So the only reason I'm going to be paying 5-6L extra for the Superb is for more legroom and maybe a couple of extra features?

Btw, is the 1.8 the turbo-charged one (or is it super-charged), like in the Superb?

Wouldn't exactly say "a couple of".

back to square one

Cross posting from the other thread.

Hi folks

Looks like its back to square one with Skoda.

They thought they tested the waters and probably came to the conclusion that they could ride over us.

So people, looks like it's show time. All you guys who were patiently waiting for Skoda to respond, buckle up and lets get going with the original plan.

Check your mail boxes.

Lets start with inspection of all cars serviced by Nummer Eins and lets initiate the press conference towards the class action law suit.

Cheers.

It is over a month and I have yet to see one on the roads! I now get to see a Jetta daily. I barely see a Superb unless I park in the golf club.

I note Autocar tom tom's Skoda's level of service during each test. That takes some doing

Word has got around!

Word has got around but not sufficiently. I've been reading ACI for seven or eight years now but they've never sufficiently criticized Skoda's A.S.S. They say it could improve but that's it. On the other hand, here we see that its a LOT worse than that.

@ajmat: I've seen a White Laura TDed (with a red TC regn no) in and around Tafe at St Marks Road. Seen a couple of new Superbs in and around North BLR.

The A*S*S* word has got to the journos I feel - Bijoy of BS Motoring wrote a few weeks back recommending Accord over Superb saying "Skoda's after sales leaves much to be desired". I am not sure what leeway ACI has over editorial content independent of Autocar. I have never seen, from what I've read, Hormazd Sorabjee or ACI write anything critical about any car maker in specific.

But boy Skoda sales is racing to the South Pole. What's really ironical is that while earlier Hyundai had a hoarding just next to Tafe's showroom for aeons, Skoda is following the "cheap Korean" act by placing a hoarding (for over a month now) just next to Trident near Cauvery theatre for Fabia - "we never called it a super hatch - you did" and saying that Fabia is now available at a discount, hurry limited period offer.

Guess they are that badly hurt by i20.

Cheers,

Well, I wouldn't mind one for free. Remember the use and throw pens? Use and throw Skodas!

Skoda Joke - What's the difference between getting out of a Skoda and getting out of a sheep?
You don't get so embarrassed if someone sees you getting out of a sheep.
