Now, showrooms for used Mercs, BMWs

Now, showrooms for used Mercs, BMWs

High demand for second-hand luxury cars entices Daimler Benz, BMW and Porsche.
A robust growth in demand for pre-owned cars and sports utility vehicles in the domestic market has enticed the country’s premium auto makers to join the party.
Daimler Benz (owner of the Mercedes brand), BMW and Porsche are either looking to enter the used car market by the end of this year or next year or are expanding their customer reach.

Good Idea?

Of course it's a good idea, yet not a fresh one. Merc has been marketing their certified used inventory for a while now. Only a matter of time before the others get on to the bandwagon. Advantages:

1. They can control the used car market, to an extent, and ensure strong residuals for their brand

2. F-A-T margins

3. Making it easy for existing customers to upgrade (within the same brand of course!)

Re: Now, showrooms for used Mercs, BMWs

BMW India, the largest luxury car maker in the Indian market, on Wednesday stated that it is mulling over the option of entering into the used-car business in the Indian market. The company is also planning to expand its dealership network in the smaller cities in India. The decision has been taken in a bid to boost the company’s footprints in the Indian market along with enhancing its market share.
While speaking to reporters at the occasion of the launch of a new BMW outlet in Pune, Mr. Andreas Schaaf, President at BMW India, said that the German car maker is likely to debut in the pre-owned car business by October 2011.
While further elaborating the importance of smaller cities in the segment of luxury car in India, Mr. Schaaf said, "Premium car business is a network business. BMW is very keen to choose right partners for network development. We are planning to give at least 40 dealerships by the end of 2012."
The major rivals of the company in the Indian market including Mercedes and Audi have already marked their debut in the country’s used car business.

Yup! This is also a great option for people who are going in for a second car. Quality is assured too, since its officially from the company.

So can we expect these guys to clean up the worn out / damaged parts from the old car and also give us some warranty or the likes?

If so it will be brilliant, given that these high end Germans suffer from reliability issues.

I would rather expect something like this - Freeman Motor Co - Used Cars - Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Rover, Porsche, Service - Portland, Oregon

Multi brand quality used car. They refurbish, sell with warranty (probably paid extended warranty) and also a good finance option. Today used car loan has shot through the roof. To facilitate buyers who will probably own these luxury cars for the first time but cannot afford the new ones a reasonable finance option should also be available.
