There is no 180 bhp RS in India (I mean stock). The RS (which is sold abroad) is a 180 bhp one. Ours is a detuned RS.

180 bhp RS ? they dont have it in india ..

they have the 180bhp RS in UK and yes they are both powered by the same 1.8L turbo charged which is shared by the Golf GTi , Jettas , audi TT etc...
the one in India is a detuned variant of the same 1.8L..
the 1.8L engine can be tuned to 225 bhp incase of the TT ...

Is it just me, or does a 30bhp downgrade seem a bit much?

hell yah !! 30 bhp is a huge difference !

30 more horses will increase performance figures by quite a bit ...

30 bhp . that means 16% detuned is a bit too much. But i guess they had to get it down inorder to adapt the engine with the fuel quality. Plus they had to keep a decent fuel efficiency figure.

i think it has more to do with the Fuel quality than the FE figures ...because the RS is a guzzler in that department ..

you can upchip our RS to 180bhp. i know some who had plans to do this. BTW you can get a significant jump in milage if you use 97 octane (BPCL) but i have not done the maths to see if it the jump compensates for the cost differential.
