29000 Suzuki swift being recalled for fuel pump issue - but not in India

Just to let you know:
http://www.forbes.com/markets/feeds/...fx2123339.html

TOKYO, (AFX) - Japanese carmaker Suzuki Motor Corp. said it is recalling about 29,000 Swift and Escudo cars to repair defects in their fuel pumping system.

The cars were produced between October 2004 and May 2005, the company said in a report to the transport ministry,

Suzuki said a defect in a part that pumps fuel to the engine can cause the engine to stop and prevent it from restarting. It stems from possible deformation of the plastic material used in the part.

Suzuki said 30 cases of engine trouble related to the defect have been reported since March.

Does this affect the indian swift?

Maruti India confirmed in TOI, the faulty Fuel Pump is no issue in Swift India as it is manufactured by Indian vendor which has no issue like parent Suzuki.

Something to cheer for those who were not happy with India version of Swift

It will not because its an altogether different engine and pump. The current setup is so tried and tested that we can be sure of no new problems.

These fuel pump problems seem to be becoming pretty common on many cars these days.

I doubt Maruti will even admit if they had the same fuel pump that there is a problem here in India. Considering only some 30 odd cars had the problem in Tokyo, the Indian mentality would be just to ignore this. However they are saying that they have a different fuel pump. Lets hope so.
