In a bid to drive back demand for its once-popular compact car, Fiat India on Thursday announced an up to Rs 22,000 cut in Palio’s price tag.

With this, the base model of Palio has been priced at Rs 3.64 lakh, making it about Rs 30,000 cheaper than the entry-level Maruti Suzuki Swift.
Paolo Castagna, the newly-appointed MD of Fiat India, said: "In order to counter competition posed by Swift and Getz, Fiat has slashed the price of Palio 1.25 ELX (deluxe model) by Rs 22,000, from 4.37 lakh to 4.15 lakh."

The price tags of its entry-level 1.2 NV EL and EL-Power steering models have been cut by Rs 15,000 priced to Rs 3.64 lakh and Rs 3.92 lakh respectively.

Observers said the price cut is a clear message from the new managemen that Fiat would be facing competition head-on rather than being passive to industry trends.

The move will also infuse a fresh lease of life into the beleaguered local arm of the Italian car manufacturer which has been struggling to cope with its industry peers.

hope they reduce the price of GTX too and improve the quality of their interiors and appoint more dealers(not TVS).

they also should retune thier 1.2 ELX engines.
they are very sluggish
very stylish, good looking work horses.

Reducing sticker prices by any manufacturer is always good news; and by Fiat (for obvious reasons) is sweet news indeed.

The FIAT web site is still not up. An ad campaign is also long overdue.

Let us hope the new guy will set the shop right.

How can they reduce prices on a model (GTX) they don't even sell...

How about launching a website for Fiat cars in India, asking for too much???

Precisely, Samurai.

if a product is selling well, why discount its price.
come on.

reduce the prices so that they can sell.

Do you need web sites for everything to get to know them??

what matters is that a product is good. that is about it.

You are missing my point. Didn't they discontinue GTX model?

What is this, Marketing 101 from Fiat business school? If the customer doesn't know what products exist, it doesn't matter how good the products are, it simply won't sell.

GTX is back in production as 1.6 sport.
Instead of reducing the prices, they should have played the hyundai game; they should have given discounts. Indians love discounts!

Yes, how on the earth would a vehicle sell if nobody knows that it exists?

Businesses without websites belong to the bygone era!!...

The point is , If you try to sell you can sell.
What ever they have Hyundai maruthi and others try really hard to sell. and they are quite successful.

hi deepak, are you sure the 1.6 palio is back in production?i guess if thats right, fiat has given me a 2nd chance.i wanted to buy it,but before i could i heard they stopped production.any idea about the new gtx price?

yes. I saw a news item around a month back which said that the gtx is back as 1.6 sport. i guess it is around 20-30k more than the present 1.2 sports' price (not the price after the price reduction). But this model is not the one with all the safety features. I am not too sure whether you can add all thse things extra. Maybe a call to the dealer would give more info.

thanks deepak, you really made my day.dont care much for the safety features, glad that a great car is back in the showroom.thank god,it has risen up from its grave!

Hi Carfreak,

This one is a test drive report of adventure. In this report, the author mentions about the gtx being back in production.
