Here's an article that says a upgraded version of the Tata Nano will be launched.

Tata Motors is set to give the Nano its first major upgrade. Although the changes are minuscule but they are important as it shows Tata’s commitment to improving its vehicles. The Tata Nano now has a higher rev limit at 6000rpm, up from 5000rpm to quicken acceleration in the first two gears helping in making life easy for the people’s car on steep inclines. The top speed is unaffected at 105kmph. The old fashioned outside rear view mirrors will be replaced with units where the mirror moves within the housing. This change is to make the mirrors compatible with electric adjustment in the future.

Next is the addition of a check strap in the doors to limit the opening of the doors. The most significant change however will be the replacement of fixed rear panel by a hatch door. The present vehicle’s boot is to cumbersome to be used especially when there are passengers sitting in the rear. These changes would very well push the price up but these are small things that would make the Nano more user-friendly.

Any scoop on this from our in house scoop masters?

May be Nano.1 , This shows TATA's commitment on improving the quality.

An upgrade already?:Shockked: There are hardly any nano's seen on road here and an upgrade is already planned!! By the time people who booked a nano will get them, an upgraded version will be sitting in the shoowrom. So much for driving away in a new car:uncontrol

well, good to know this. But what about people who are stuck with generation 1 nano! Will they have to be content with the faulty setups.

TATA should also do something about the battery which is under the driver's seat for the existing nanos.

Great to know Tata isn't resting on the Nano's laurels but looking to make it better all the time. It would be real dumb not to improve a car fearing that one might hurt the sentiments of existing customers.
In a perfect world it would be nice to have the car A-ok from day one, thats not always the case, not to even the most experienced car makers.

Nice, only 4 months / 10,000 odd cars sold and there's upgrades already! Nevertheless, improvements are always welcome. The 6,000 rpm revv limit ought to help owners derive the max of that li'l 2 cylinder engine while the rear hatch will make things more convenient for them.

I'm sure there will be some modifications to the electrical wiring system too. I've seen atleast 8 reports of Nano's catching fire.

The sentiments would be more subdued or to an extent taken care of if Tata replaces the Changed/ New parts free of cost during service for the old customers.

Tata has a habit of using the first lot of customers as some sort of test dummies.

Good they do the upgrades real fast before more of them are out on the streets. And give the cars to those who have already paid the full amount at the old prices.

having a rear hatch door is a good move, IMHO.

And what about the highly inflammable electric harness on the existing version? I guess we already have tow threads on the nano bursting into flames.

The updates planned are not significant enough for earlier nano owner to feel bad about.

The 6000 rpm rev limit increase should be possible to change even in the existing nano version.

We keep seeing feedback regarding changing the battery location, but technically the location provided is quite ideal, from safety and wt distribution point of view as well as from space utilization point of view.

And here is the linky to the report on Autocar website.

Great news. Its nice to know that they are not just sitting on the Nano.

The hatch door should have been there on the initial model by itself.

Get a feeling that the V2 improvements would result in a minor cost increase and since it has commited to not increase pricing for the first 100,000 units most of the changes would happen post 100,000 at a nominal price rise.

just a tip/surprise/anything you call. honeywell are ready with turbos for nano :thumbs up

What about Nano diesels?

Is it also a part of this update?
