Hi - is customised number plates allowed in India? In UK it is quite common and also does not cost a lot. I was wondering what is the situation here & who else to ask except the knowledgable BHPians? Thanks.

you see , by paying u can have your desired no. on u r car and even a change in series like ab bd , fa etc etc . but anything beyond that is not possible at all.

nope its not allowed. the maximum you can get are VIP numbers.

As said by Quattro and Akshay this concept is yet to come to india, for now you can a number of your choice in most states, but thats only last 4 digits of the whole registration no. alloted.

In the UK you can have a number plate or licence plate for your car and pass it on or bequeath it to your newer cars.
In the US in most states subject to local state laws any kind of number can be had for a premium with customised letters like MAN,RAM and so on.
We here can pay for a future series as quattroa4 says to get our favourite numbers.
