ACI reports that the current Wagon R (Mk II) in India will be replaced a newer one (MK III) by March 2010.

- Mk III was launched in 2003 and was phased out by Mk IV in Japan in 2008. Maruti has imported the dyes, tools and line.

- Instead of upgrading to BSIV, Maruti decided to upgrade the whole car.

- Indian model will get the 1 litre K series engine.

- Modifications will be made, Indian model will feature different bumpers, grill, better interiors.

- Price estimated to start from Rs. 3.5 Lakhs.

this is nice maruti is working very had in this segment of vehicles

Maruti Suzuki: We live to confuse Indian car buyers who are looking for a small car! We will sell outdated and funny designs too.

The box car has become much more boxier. I donot understand why Maruti would want to replace a resonably well selling WagonR with this boxy car?

Maruti's factory is scrapyard for Suzuki's factory in Japan.:D

Well, the box has indeed become boxier, unless Maruti tweaks it up here and there.
But this looks longer and wider than the present one, and if that is true, it will sell since it is more spacious.

To sum it, the Swift, the Omni,800 and the alto are the only cars from Maruti which is worth buying today in my opinion.

I hate the looks of WagonR currently sold in India, but after seeing this picture I started loving it :-)) WagonR - More box per car

Is there an award for, "Loyalty to parent company"?

Please give it to Maruti Suzuki India. They bring/manufacture models that are well past their "Sell by date" in Japan and sell them in India for a healthy profit.

No wonder MSIL is a milk cow for parent Suzuki.

P.S: MSIL Design Team should be scuba diving now to find their inspiration for this makeover. Last time it was a Barracuda fish I think. But wait, the estilo makeover was pretty good, some change of heads or was the design from Japan?

The box has become boxier. I feel that the current version of the WR looks better than current one shown in the picture.

I feel the Indian customers will still buy it as it is a practical car with loads of space and FE will improve due to the K series engine.

It seems that Suzuki has run out of models & ideas hence tweaking old cars in a new presentation.

To be in the lead Maruti has to constantly evolve and come up with new models, that’s the reason I think they have teamed up with VW.

(Slightly OT) Maruti can now say , the Indian car market is matured and we are treating it as such. See we are replacing Wagon R in 5 years! Anyone who buys this car will be called Jack. Why ? Then he will become Jack-in-the-box . The second jack-in-the-box is the car jack :uncontrol. Why don't they retain the Wagon R and call this the Wagon B? Hopefully this will be another cash box for Maruti..

Naaah! That can't be the one coming to India. The design looks more outdated than even the current WR. I bet Autocar has got this wrong this time.

DCEite, you are correct but they have anyways said that the bumper, grill etc will be changed.

so they might bring the chasis, engine and other parts for this car and do some changes with design slightly to fit the Indian taste

This doesn't look all that good. I do hope that they improve the interiors significantly like the one shown in another thread. Also if this is the new wagon R, the 1 ltr K series engine will not be sufficient. This box looks much bigger than the current version and the 3 cyl will make it sluggish

The present Wagor-R looks better than this new one which is just boxy type.
Its exterior looks are not attractive and tyre seems very small for a big van like structure. Maruti should have taken care and given little beautifcation on its design ?
