The vehicle surely looks quite nice. I personally like the Vista headlights. However I am a little confused about where this vehicle will be positioned.

1. It looks like an MPV and so irrespective of SUV underpinnings and credentials (if that is the case), SUV buyers would likely stay away.

2. Absence of a third row would rule it out for most MPV buyers.

The horrendous finish of the dashboard in the picture shows that it is a temporary job for the test vehicle. I hope Tata's do a good job of the interiors. If there is one area where they really need to step up their game - this is it.

to clear all your doubts, its a MUV and not SUV.
secondly neither it looks like Innova or the Ugly Xylo. Yes the headlights have a DNA from the Vista.
There is an obvious 3rd row in this MUV. The interior is all new beige. I hope the plastic quality is good.
The wheel arcs look bigger. i think they are still sorting out the final styling.
It will host the legendary 2.2 Dicor engine.
It is no upgrade of safari nor its replacement. its a entire new product.

Can a car sell on looks alone? I doubt. Safari is, anyday, more handsome than a Scorp, but see which sells more. I am sure Xylo is there to stay, becoz a UV buyer has a different set of priorities.

Anyways, its a good looking car and it would be really nice it Tatas could manage some inputs from their JLR enggs.

Certainly not only looks, but then its almost looks like clone to Innova to me atleast. There could have been more individuality in the car IMO, but as steerid mentions in the following quote, its just another UV.

You can make out all this from those pics???

Since you mention "I hope the tyres last longer" can you tell me how long it should last, and how long the current Safari tyres last?

Other than that, its just another MPV clone line a whole bunch of those around the world. Nothing ground-breaking in the design department and those Indica lights suck. The sooner they lose the Indica smiley design, the more likely they are to taste success in the market. There comes a time when every company must break away from its past image, that time has long passed for Tata Motors.

Well, yes it was a guess and going by the Xylo reviews, I think this car will be better than Xylo. Moreover they are testing in developed markets, so they are also targetting the international market. There could be inputs from Fiat, Jaguar and LR also, so overall, IMO, it would be better than Xylo when it comes out. I am sure Tata will now be taking Xylo more seriously.
The market is getting a lot more tougher and considering the fact that tata now owns many brands, I think the overall package will be better.

Agree with you on tata indica smiley design.

IMO TML needs to focus on fixing up known niggles before they launch any new vehicle, be it SUV or MUV.

Cheers!!! :)

Is this the new Safari or the new Innova! Confused!

Well, if you loook at the KICHDI, definetly a TATA, if these things are taken from existing brands - makes me think - the body shell could be from a Innova...!!

Now, that is one keen set of observations you have made, SVS! :thumbs up

Now, what is it with these guys, TATA's and M&M's? Giving out products that looks like a cross-breed with the competitors stable???

Anyway, seems like we might get spoilt for more choices in the near future.

The steering wheel is, in fact, exactly that of the Indigo - before the facelift. You can see the crease going across the Tata logo in both the images. They could be using it as a mock steering wheel for the test vehicle - as am sure they must have designed a new one for the Indicruz. Thought I like the steering wheel of my Indigo very much - chunky to hold and decent four-spoke design, but a size that is large in diameter for a sedan - could be perfect though for a MPV.

looks like an exact replica of the innova, anyways looks much better than the xylo. hope the interiors are as good as it has to compete with the xylo and innova.

being a tata, i am sure the pricing will be attractive.

Friends, I've tried to visualise how the Indicruz will look without the masking.

I've taken references and a bit of artistic freedom while doing so.

Please check the photo and let the comments flow.

Great work Salil! Going great guns buddy.

Nice work Salil.
Headlights seem to be taken from Vista. Grill from ANHC. Steering is Indigo. Overall design from Innova. Any more copying left for this:D
All said and done this will sell Hot!
But not a safari replacement, I love Safari looks, dont kill it please.

Nice work there, mate. That vehicle looks better than Innova. I think Tata Motors has an winner here.

They've named it the IndiCruze. It surely must be a great highway cruiser and looks like its got lot of carryover characteristics from its Big Bro the Safari.

This is not the Safari replacement. Will sell like hot cakes.

Great job there Salil!

I quite like the looks. Good to have a debate on why it's copied from the Innova.

But if we consider the Original designs of India over the past few years,
Xylo
Swift Dzire
Sumo Grande
Facelifted Scorpio, Bolero, Zen, M800, WagonR,
I think we are better of with copied/inspired designsstupid:
