Used Fiat Palio-D

Hi,
I was looking for a pre-owned Palio-D and approached a POC guy here, He has got a Palio-D ELX with 29K on Odo and the model is of 2003.
He was asking for 4L for this model and I think I should try it to negotiate upto 3.5L.
Could you guys Please let me know whether this is a good deal! what could be the right price for this model?
What are the things I should check for before I go ahead for the deal!!
Shall I have some mechanic to check this car before I go ahead?

i think the price is too high - a new elx diesel costs 5.4 lakhs here in mumbai on road. anyways, apart from the usual checks, it's always advisable to get a qualified mech to check out the car...you just never know! that's been my experience with buying second hand.

You are right cream,
I have heard that the second hand prices are higher in Bangalore compared to Mumbai.
I think that could be one of the reasons.
I checked with one of my friends in Chennai and he told me that around 3.7L should be fine for a 2003 model that has run 29K.
I'm planning to have a look at it soon. I'll update you on this soon.

One more thing I just wanted to let you know is the new ELX onroad here is 6.22 at Bangalore; i beleive the road tax is highest in Bangalore here.

The price seems to be quite high. My friend is trying to sell off his S-10 (3 year old) and he is not able to get even 3Lakhs. It should not be any different for Palio-D as well.

Hi Guys,
Cream and RX you guys are right, the price seems right.
Though it can be negociated. Few points that seem to be good are
-> Vehicle has done much in the odometer -- 28000
-> Single owner

If the condition is mint, then may be we can look at a price of 3.4 or 3.7.

What do you guys think?

I had seen one HONDA CITY 1.5 EXI 2002 model, done 25000 kms for sale. Price quoted was Rs.4.5 Lakhs but through relaiable sources found out that he will give it off for Rs.3.75L (that's the market rate).

Hence I feel 3.7L is also a higher price as the second hand car prices is more or less similar in both Chennai and Bangalore

But guys its a Palio D and i guess its got a good market.Anyway i think 3.2-3.5 is a good deal.Palio D is much in demand unlike the case of palio petrol.

Hey Guys,
One thing I was always surprised with is the on raod price for the Palio-D.
Cream says its about 5.4L in Mumbai and what I find in Bangalore is 6.22L I'm not sure what makes such a big difference; and that has actually confused me to look for the used car option.
I'm still thinking over it and I have got time till end of this month to take the decission.
So, again your inputs are welcome on used (not older than 2 years) and new Palio-D.

sorry, the palio d costed me 5.4 lakhs when i picked it up in feb 05, that's 5 months ago. have the prices been hiked up by fiat in the interim period by any chance? will try to find out tomorrow.

hi ketan,
the price difference in mumbai and bangalore is of concern here, as the reason for the same is not because of a price hike.
The fiat plant is in mumbai and they have some tax cuts (like OCTROI etc) for selling in mumbai and also for maharastra...
so i believe the exshow price would itself be the differentiator...
as part of the other costs ... they all depend on the exshow price...
that would account for the overall difference in the price!!!

Hey Guys,
I recently saw a used Palio D and while inspection I came to know that the rear power windows doesnt roll down fully, I could roll them down at about 75-80% only - both of them.
is this a seafty feature? (oops,, not sure of it) or this is something wrong with the power windows in Palio D, this is ELX 2003 model.

There is nothing wrong with the power windows. The rear windows of the Palio do not open fully. It is a safety feature to prevent kids from putting their hands out of the windows while the car is in motion. This of course works better abroad where kids are put into child seats at the back.

My friend purchased a S-10 from chenai for 2.5L It had 35K on the odo and a new set of tires. Palio prices are sinking like rocks!

New Palio D costs 6.05 on road in Hyderabad. The new cars have better interiors compared to older cars.
