The Merc's already out in the market, & with the Beemer slated to storm into the market later this year and Audi ,hot at their heels with the new A6 next year, the streets are set to get red hot !! The visual comparison is just a promo......who the "real" winner/ all rounder is, remains to be seen. ....what say ?? :)

I would pick a beamer :thumbs up any day; dunno but just blindly love them

I would go for the beemer since it has a sports character and merc is for chauffeur driven luxury.

Leg space ? Very bad for back seat drivers !!

well yea...that is sort of puzzling. For starts, the Beemer, by far, has the longest wheelbase in the segment (more than the Jaguar as well) and dimensions have been minutely increased from the E60 ,hence BMW claim that the legspace has increased quite a bit at the rear and given more of an "airy" feeling compared to the earlier model. On the contrary, everyone who has tested both cars, has reported the the Merc "feels" more spacious and gives more of an airy feeling than the Beemer at the back, despite of its smaller dimensions. Merc anyways, were always good at passenger comfort wer'nt they ?

Beamer any day!!! I just cant compare Merc with Beamer. Had it been again Audi choice would have been a little tough.

Merc anyday! The new 5 Series has an identity crisis, a 3 series on steriods or a scaled down 7 series call it whatever you will but there's no mistaking an E Class.

The 5-Series has lost its identity and that for me is the biggest bummer. Besides Merc has the BMW all covered when it comes with refinement and waftability with little compromise on handling. Its not as good as the BMW to drive but its more cossetting and comfortable and can handle if asked to.

BMW all the way. Love the bold curves on the new 5 series. I would prefer a BMW over a Merc or Audi anyday. Period. But when there's a Jaguar for competition, I would think a bit.

i would pick the beemer over the mercedes since they say that beemers are more driver oriented.

wait for it to launch, take a TD of all the cars in that class and then make the decision.

wow, apart from the comfortable part ( i agree with you that the merc would b more comfortable) but that apart, all my judgments contradict yours. Thats the beauty of a forum right? varying opinions are heard...rather, read lolzclap:
News is, jus like the merc (which has made great strides in handling compared to the w211) ,similarly, the f10 5 series has taken huge leaps n bounds in the positive direction towards comfort orientation and the general word is that even with the run flats, the beemer has a very comfortable ride and bumps that usually would have been felt in the e60 5 series would hardly cause a hiccup in the forthcoming model. fingers crossed. hope all this is true for the beemer's sake.
As far as exterior design is concerned ,i feel that in a few years time the Merc would start looking terribly dated ( especially because of the akward rear end design (yuck!) ) whereas the beemer would still look gracious.

In this forum, I guess most people would be driving than be driven, so the choice is but obvious!

true but u never know. there are many Benz faithfuls.

I still can't get over the way 5 series resembles a 3 series. Its too much of task to differentiate them. E class is unique in that way, atleast from front, though from rear it reminds me of a Hyundai.

The choice would be pretty clear, if i had to drive everyday, i would pick up a 530d, if i would be seen driven in, i would pick E350 cdi. I really doubt people will buy this car to take corners at 120+ kph speeds, these will be mostly driven/chauffeured by executives and thus e class has an upper hand.

obviously, there will mercedes and bmw loyalist so the battle between the two would be epic. Add a bit of A6 and you have a war brewing up in next 1 year. Would be interesting to see what audi comes up with.

As of now, without a test drive of 5 series, i would pick up an E as i have driven one and its fantastic.

Gimme (I don't have the money to buy it yet ya :D) the Beemer, anyday!

The Merc's just plain ughhly.
