I have booked Ritz VDI-ABS with Bimal Auto (Know a contact there, hence the choice of dealer) on February 9th by paying minimal booking amount. I've been told repeatedly that ABS version of Ritz VDI comes in limited numbers and hence i can't be assured of current price post march. Am ready to pay the on road price as of today, but the dealer isn't ready to raise the invoice as he doesn't have stock of this variant. They can give me approximate date of delivery only after march first week, when they expect new stocks of ABS variant. Same case with most of the prominent dealers here (RNS/Pratham etc)

This variant is costing around 6.15 Lakhs on road here and currently maruti is giving 20 thousand cash discount till this month end, they aren't sure if it will extend in march.
Now i have already resigned to the fact that i will have to shell out extra. My question is by how much?

Latest Budget update:

1. Excise duty hiked from 8% to 10%.
2. Excise duty on large cars, SUVs, multi utility vehicles hiked
3. Full excise cut on electric cars

We will pay more for cars from now on?
Will this affect 1.2 cc petrol & 1.5 cc diesel cars as well?

We will have to wait for the exact notification to come to see the meaning of 'Large Cars'. But we can be assured that hatchbacks would not come in this category (atleast of 1.2 L category & hope diesel 1.5 as well). Excise difference of 2% will be added to large cars, SUV's and MUV's as mentioned above, so they will be more expensive now.

No concrete information on which segments to take impact. I guess large cars mean: > 4000mm and >1.2 for petrol and >1.5 for diesel.
Guys any idea about impact on small cars (<4000mm and all)?

Excise duty on small cars ( including 1200 cc for petrol and 1500 cc for diesel ) will also increase from 8 to 10 %. Suvs increase from 20 % to 22 %

So i think cars of size of Honda city / fiesta / logan where 16 % excise applies remains same.

So, not a pleasant budgest for car buyers/users?

A quick question: Isn't the budget for the next financial year (Apr-10 to Mar-11)?

If so then the price should be increased only from the month of April right? Why does it take place with immediate effect? Have the same question for rise price of Petro Products?

Sorry for being stupid but just wanted to know these. Anybody please clarify.

@SchumiFan - As far as I know, there are 2 classes of price hikes - one that get hiked from 1st April, as you've rightly mentioned. And the other are "with immediate effect". Petro and some other stuff fall into this category. Not sure about car prices though...
